Due to the odd manner that dragon fist damage manifests, you can develop insanely high DPS without even needing a weapon. The 20 AR is multiplied by the value of 18, so 20 AR = 360 damage per hit. This places it on par with some of the best fist weapons in the entire game. When Dragon Roar is in effect, your AR is 26, which is 468. This is alright DPS, and when boosted with Power Within this is further raised to 648 damage... Got your attention yet? Probably not... so let's add in RTS. 990 damage is now your new damage per hit...

Except that this damage get's a bit weird during a back-stab or riposte. A backstab under these conditions does 2200 damage, and a riposte does 3700. I'm not sure -why- this happens though, and I'd love it if people could find out why. The hornet ring, as expected, boosts those numbers to 3300 and 5050, but none the less, the damage increase is exponential here, and I'm not sure of why. I've got a theory though.

Obviously it's multiplying the AR by 18 in this equation, I reached this answer by testing a fist weapon that had 360 AR. vs the first mobs outside firelink, the damage is exactly the same inbetween the two weapons, leading me to my conclusion on the multiplier. My assumption is that a backstab and Riposte use the same multiplier for... different results though. If a backstab and riposte add the bonus damage to your AR, that would do some very funny things to the dragon fist, and might explain the disproportinate damage. Otherwise, do we assume the Dragon Hand has a 200 or 300 critical bonus? What is your thoughts on this? I'm very confused...

Oh, wow. Thanks for the info. Now I know to stay away from unarmed dragonoids. Or I could try them out myself too.

The roar buff increases it. And bows are why I realized I can do so much damage this way. The arrow isn't calculated when BSing with a bow, so your 200 AR is doing that 15K backstab. I then realized I can get to 55 AR without having to do any type of exploit, and wondered what could happen. Needless to say I can instakill people even without the red tearstone ring.

I'd made a SL5 Dragon (raised Dex to be able to wield claws) a while ago and was sort of disappointed to find out that none of the fist weapons I could wield could do more damage than my bare dragon fists! I'd gone through the trouble of making Chaos +5 Claws and Caestus, and they were both weaker than fists. Only difference was that the fists have no range, and pretty much no moveset.

I hadn't really looked into critical damage, though, it's good that you bring that up. I rarely ever backstabbed, and I didn't parry back then, so I didn't really know that criticals with the dragon fists were so strong.

Dragons I find to be some of the most unique parts of the game. Simply the body, head, claws, and weapons, were all very very interesting. Dragon weapons seem to be a select few weapons where S rank exists in a singular stat.
Dragon Bone Fist: S Rank Scale for STR
Priscilla's Dagger: S Rank Scale for DEX
Moonlight Greatsword: S Rank Scale for INT
Besides Dragon Tooth, which has a D rank STR scale and gets the benefit of using resins, the rest of the Dragon weapons have no scaling, but very high upgrade base damage. For example, most people think the drake sword is crap when maxed out, but the reality is, with 99 DEX, Priscilla's Dagger caps at 295, while Drake Sword caps at 300.
These are weapons of their own league, and then add in the dragon itself, and you have a new wave of interesting damage buffs, attacks, and power. I seriously think that if someone looks deeper into the Dragons, they might find secrets that would give them ridiculous power buffs, or even find a method to give the Drake Sword, Dragon King's Greataxe, and Dragon Greatsword some form of Scaling. I'm on a covenant hunt right now, testing the Chaos Servants first, ad later I'll be testing the Dragons because I love them almost as much.

I was doing some math and spells are about 2% more powerful when casted under Dragon Roar, Power Within, + Bellowing, then if casted under RTS, Dusk Crown, and Bellowing Dragoncrest. I think Dragons have a better overall stat for DPS with nearly anything based on aspects like that.

^Could be highly lethal with Pyro. Dragon Roar (et al.) + Great Combustion... (As if that spell needed any more advantages, right?)

the reason the bows make the bs damage stupid big, is that they factor in their scaling to the equation so youve got 20 x 18 x scaling + 35% from roar and possibly another +80% boost from rts and pw, oh and another 40% boost for hornets ring.

What level was your dragon covenant? Does increasing the level make a difference in the roar's adjustment in the physical attack too?

As in, it is such a ridiculous range of damage. Something that really shouldn't exist in game.

At +3 my AR is 26 while the Roar is in effect, 35% would give me 27 AR. Rather I have 24 AR without any ranks, 25 at rank 0-2, and 26 at rank +3. This makes me conclude the value range is 20% - 30%.

hmm well what i stated earlier were just numbers i had read earlier on previous dragon threads... so its quite possible their off... also we don't know where in the equation the dragon roar comes in, cause is the boost to your stated AR or your actual damage dealt?
