When does scaling become pointless?

For instance, is there a point when my dex. stat no longer scales with my +15 Iaito?

yes indeed for all stats i think its after 31 or so and then almost negating scaling above 40

for dex 40.
for str (27 if you dual hand, 40 if you use single handed)
for faith/int 50. (note, this is not valid for catalysts, talismans... those have their own MagAdjust scalings)
for normal weapons with C,C (str 27, dex 40 if you dualhand and 40,40 if you use it single handed)

Most stat stop scalling when they reach 40 or 50 so i'd stop at that

nothing useful? it's actually accurate;) now you just need to figure how you can scale stats while game is shut down

SURPRISINGLY, I was mugged a few weeks ago and my 32 dexterity stat would not allow me to perform a pivot backstab.

in life max lvl is infinity, you need higher stats of a particular magnitude to pull of pivots etc in life... personally im probably like sl5....

It also really really hurts to roll on paved surfaces.

I am not sure if this calculator has been completely updated with the newest patch information, but this is what I used to find diminishing returns for weapon scaling. You select the weapon upgrades on the left, input the different stat increases and you can see the damage output.

That link he posted has good information. Faith has drastic diminishing returns at faith lvl 50.

ah thanks, so after about lvl 2-300 what do you put stats in if the returns in attack stats aren't worth it?

So if this is correct, I would get 70 more damage from an lightning Iaito +5 than I do with a normal +15 Iaito with maxed out Dexterity stats?

I can not take the credit for the calculator, this is something that was posted in the old forums that I just bookmarked. I know at one point they were updating it with the patch information, but I am not sure if it was completed. You may want to take the information with a grain of salt, but back when I was doing a faith build the information was pretty accurate for me.

@jjshowal - perhaps if you had a wii you could practise your rolling in the living room?

Yes, with a caveat: Lightning/fire/chaos/divine/occult/magic/enchanted weapons have split stats, physical damage and then the other damage (lightning, fire, etc.). Depending on defense stats, the +15 may do more damage to a particular enemy. Plus with +15 you can always use resin, or cast a buffing spell on it to increase the damage even further.

no, you wouldn't. lightning weapon does composite damage and as such physical part is capped by physical defense and lightning is capped by lightning defense. it is not simple addition. normal will do way more damage (well, way more depends on weapon damage after capping) since it is capped only once

you also don't get strength bonus for dual wielding (get normal dual wielding 150% though)

it is not affecting the damage negatively, you simply dont get as much damage compared to the points you allocate to a specific stat. deminishing returns.
