The Brewmasters Thread Empty The Brewmasters Thread

Post by Digitalyzed Mon May 07, 2012 2:21 pm

So this is just a short thread for those of you who homebrew, in which I will answer questions, but more specifically I wish to ask some. First, here's the basic background: I started homebrewing about a year ago, making beer using one of those simple kits, and loved it since then. While it is not as explosive as my other projects, it's fun and rewarding in it's own sense. I've made light lagers, apple ciders, mead, and attempted wine (Though I'm not patient enough for it to work well). After a year, there are still some things I wish to know or have clarified for me (Get the joke?) So, here I go.

First, are there any substitutes to isinglass for clarifying brews? I've heard of using egg whites and gelatin but I'm not quite sure how they work.

Second, has anyone here had good results from fermenting store bought apple juice into cider? I tried it and got a decent result, but I want to know what you guys think of it in comparison to using real apples.

Finally, how much would you say a license for selling homebrew costs? I should probably just google it but I'm bored and you might be too so you never know.

Yes, I know I should maybe post this kind of stuff on a dedicated brewing board, but I'm in no rush (fermentation is a loooong process) so I may as well bother you guys with it. Yes, I will answer any questions on it if you want me to.

The only thing I can definitively answer is that fresh apples or directly from a cider mill will yield better ciders. Anything in the store will have been pasteurized and more difficult to do anything with. More importantly however, is that it will taste better at the mill.

I can probably help you with that. What are you needing to know. Are you knew to brewing or do you just need help with mead itself?

Well I'll dig around for something, but it's very similar to making a cider. I believe all you have to do is replace the apples or pears with oranges, and add honey during or after fermentation.

Needs to be a beer buff for Hunters in DkS. After a hard day of work Alvina will grab you a drink on the house.

Of Course It's all so clear now!
Maybe different Covenants should get different rank 4 drinks. Sunbros get mead, forest hunters get good ol' foresty apple cider, darkwraiths get red wine (Closest to blood), Chaos servants get Absinthe (That stuff burns), gravelord servants get...I have no idea, and princess guard and way of white can have a nice glass of water.

Mmmmm.......Absinthe. With all the scientifically unsupported misconceptions surrounding thujone that's a great Chaos pick. My only recommendation is that Way of White get a sip of sacramental wine. Princess guard would get water but Gwyndolin would make it look like milk (oh the mammary references abound with this guy). Dragons would get Everclear and it's 190 proof flammability and blindness warnings. Darkmoons would think drinking is a sin and abstain. Gravelords.....hmmmm......embalming fluid?

Everclear is pretty much moonshine, aka corn mash. Wood grain alcohol made me almost spit coffee. Perfect.

Good vodka would mix with pickle juice. I've seen some cheap stuff that doesn't mix with anything. Probably mostly rubbing alcohol or hand sanitizer marketed as booze.
