Interesting kinds of death. Empty Interesting kinds of death.

    Post by his1n- Fri Apr 13, 2012 9:38 am

I'm sure at least once such a thread already existed, but in case of Dark Souls this topic has to be raised every once in a while anew.

You can't avoid dying in Dark Souls for eternity, you know that, but sometimes death just strikes you so unexpected, so creative, that it's just ridiculous.
So I ask you, which were the craziest ways you died?

I'll bring in gladly some examples to start this:
    - A day like every other day in the Great Hollow. Me jumping down one branch after the other without expecting anything to happen. But then I perform this very jump, a jump I made a million times before already... but what is it I will fall into?
Exactly, the rotten plant of a cursed player from another world, I slip and cave to death.
    - Sen's Fortress. I'm about to face the crocodile which will be slapped away by the huge rock everyone knows just some seconds in the future. I'm like, let's tickle him quickly before he dies! So I run towards him, perform a run-attack with a Claymore... and of course get hit by the rock too. But which is the direction I get thrown in? Not the one the rock was facing (why would I, even?), no, I get shot into the direction of the abyss in front of me, no way of salvation available.
    - Not certainly my death, but a funny one indeed:
The Catacombs. I was invaded by a dark phantom a while ago, but I literally gave a crap.
I was about to pull a lever to turn a bridge as this very phantom was standing behind me all of a sudden, willing more than anything to stab me.
This happens: He attacks me some frames before the pull-animation ends, so he is somewhat phasewalking through him, allowing -me- to backstab -him-, pushing my Divine Claymore through his heart and beyond.
    I imagine his face.

Now your stories, please happy .

Once I jumped onto an invisible ledge that is a terrain error outside the shortcut to lost Izalith. Upon walking forwards my character started sliding until I hit the wall, I stayed there for like a minute before rolling, which sent me flying through the door and into Izalith where the fall killed me. I haven't been able to reproduce it sadly.

I once was battling as a dark phantom in Sen's Fortress, then we both fell through the open grate. I ended up randomly landing on the top of one of the swinging axes and narrowly survived as he fell the rest of the way.

Most comical death I've experienced on my first play through. I was just chilling in Tomb of the Giants walking along trying to avoid the giant skeleton lions and I get invaded. I can hardly see after I switch from my latern to a shield and while doing so the higher level player quickly hacks away at my health with some firey dragon axe. Then we just square off and walk around in a circle for about 30 seconds. I can tell hes licking his chops and can't wait to get gloat over my dead body when suddenly, as we are walking around in a circle, he slips off of the obsurdly narrow path into the darkness. I take his 30k of souls and go on my way.

I was forest hunting and thought I'd be a Clever Dan (Tolvo, you get this reference?) and jump the gap with the host and phantom chasing me. I missed......

    So did the host.....

Cooping in Anor Londo, we get invaded. I am the lead through the rafters, and run into the DW right at the end. He runs up to me on the rafter and tries to knock me off with force, which I soak with my silver knight shield +5. He casts it 10 times in a row as I keep soaking it and then walking back forward a bit, and then suddenly after the 10th one I kick him in the chest and he falls to his death.

But wait! There's more! Feeling like a boss, I lead the host to the lever for the rotating stairs. He triggers it, and after the cutscene I fall straight down through the stairs and die.

I've said this one before, but I am cooping in TOTG, my host manages to drop down onto the platform where the four bone pillars rise around the corpse. The host thinks he is stuck, so he is wandering around trying to figure out how to get off. With my host staring at me, I decide to show him to jump off of it by doing a jump, I start running sideways (on my screen) and do a jump, feeling like I am fluently demonstrating the principle to my host.....my feet never hit the ground silly that cliff was a bit smaller than I thought it was.....

I have the best one...happened two days ago. Fighting Maneater Mildred (Black Phantom in Blighttown with my level 4 Starting Gear Fight Club Toon) and my controller starts to tell me that I am running low on juice. I figured I had enough time to kill Mildred then plug in a USB or swap controllers, but alas the message lasted like 5 seconds and then my controller disconnected. You can guess what happened next.

I was on the bridge fighting the Moonbug and somersaulting like mad to get away from the beam attack and I flipped sideways over the edge. I kind of hung there for ages and then started falling for what seemed like forever then thump, I hit bottom and died.

-Running through Sen's, I always turn right instead of run down, this time the boulder hit me into the corner, so I bounced back and hit the boulder again, and again resulting in my death.

    - Fighting an invader in the forest making a run for sif, my phantom chases him up the stairs to the first area, my health was low, and suddenly the invader falls on me and kills me. Well, his Karmic justice kicked in at the exact moment he fell so I'm counting it.

-Going through the Great Hollow for the first time (happened today) get to the bottom (?) and start fighting the giant mushrrom men, he hits me once and sends me flying into the corner where I get stuck as he traps me in the corner and starts swinging >.< Later, I am going to get my bloodstain with a normal Ring of Sacrifice on. I prepare for the Giant mushrrom this time by first swtiching to heavy gear, from my Painted Guardian gear at the bonfire. First run through (PG and 85 humanity) the curse frogs didn't get me past 50% and I was just standing there, my curse bar was insanely high, why would I worry about them anymore?

I get to them, they spit, I watch in horror as my curse bar is 1/10 of what it was before. sad

    - Fighting the Demon Firesage on NG+19...
    battle starts, he instantly performs his almost unavoidable to-the-side-attack(-explosion), I block;
    repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat;
god... time to take an Estus Flask: I press Square, nothing happens. Instantly the Sage prepares to perform his explosion -again-, I press L1 to block... what could possibly happen aside my character NOW starting to pull out his Estus Flasks because inputlagisawesome.
    - In the Darkwood Garden I finish off a spirit at the very edge of the map near the first stairway... I input a roll backwards to get away from the edge cleanly, but of course at this instant another spirit appears right behind me, auto-lock-on grasped for the target within the blink of an eye and my character performed the roll in the opposite direction... to hell.

Co-op inside the Kiln; the host, a golden phantom and me.
The order which we were using to cross the bridge ended up being the golden phantom first, then me, and then the host. At the middle of the bridge, the phantom stops suddenly, the host bumps into me and I bump into the phantom and we both fell down.

I recently went up against the butcher on my Str character. 2hing my Demon's Greataxe (I'm a low level, so I have to do this, and I have horrible armor), I back "stab" him, and when he gets up, I hit him with my strong attack. He literally has a SLIVER of health, and my character is still facing the ground with the axe sitting there as if she's too tired to move. This is the animation you get when you MISS the 2h strong attack. I then get 1 shot.

Running through the Catacombs, I dodge all the skeletons until I reach the first shortcut-fall, then I jump right down.

    - While I'm falling, another skeleton jumps down, knocks me off my trajectory in mid-air, I miss the landing and fall to my death.

Look Skyward Have to start the speed-run over.

    - Just before I jump down, another skeleton jumps down, lands before me. I land on top of him, slide off to the side, fall to my death.

Look Skyward Have to start the speed-run over.

This is one of the reasons I haven't beaten my speed run. You wouldn't believe the bs deaths I've had in the catacombs (it's the first place I go), so I'd given up on it! I'm strongly thinking about trying again now, though. Been months since I've tried now.

I was cooping in the New Londo ruins and get summoned by a host to help with the four kings. Excited we all take off running. Me in the lead, the host behind me. Surely this will be a glorious battle. We get down the stairs to the first plank bridge, before the ghosts and the drop down shortcut. The host and I running, almost hand in hand, but me still in the lead. As we cross that first bridge, a route I have navigated on numerous occassions, the hosts phantom somewhat obscures my view. I would like to think that the camera adjusted to give me a better view of my character, but I am more inclined to believe that I adjusted the camera so I could clearly see my character in all his handsomeness as he angled ever so slightly off the path I wished him to take and kept running right off the side while I futilely attempted to correct his direction. I felt shame.

Just saw the best bloodstain I've ever seen, in Anor Londo right on the main walkway before the rotating stairs. The phantom ninja rolls backwards twice, fires an Avelyn, reloads, flips sideways, then flies straight up in the air like a rag doll (gravelord greatsword dance I think), and then bounces off the railing and disappears. It was like a Die Hard movie.

Fun one in Anor Londo last night. I'm a sunbro, plus host and white phantom. We get invaded, but the bp runs off and disappears. I get separated from the host/phantom and decide to head up past the titanite demon to the main hall, to open the doors. My sunbro sense tells me the bp will be up in the hall, probably right by the stairs exit, so I roll through the doorway. Sure enough he's right there, misses a BS attempt on me and we go at it. He's got some sort of chaos/fire washing pole, and I'm using my trusty fire balder side sword +10. We're both down to maybe 50 life, and he turns and runs up the stairs towards the top level /DSB window. I fake chasing him, then turn around and run down to the lower platform, planning to jump off and run for the doors. Knowing I will take falling damage if I jump off that platform which will probably kill me (I sunbro in here a lot), I quickly touch off my Great Heal even though it'll get me BS'd. Sure enough, he runs back down and backstabs me while I'm healing, but it still leaves me with more life than I had. I immediately roll forward off the platform and run straight to the door lever, hoping he'll follow. He jumps off after me, and dies from the fall damage, just as one of the guardians swings right where I'd landed - making it look like it killed him.

Ahh, it was glorious, plus by the time the host showed up I'd cleared the entire hall and was just standing there praising the sun like a boss.

I was going back and forth getting a few str boss weapons I'd like to try out (Dragon Fist, Golem Axe, Smough's Hammer) and for some reason the 2 giant guards outside the Chamber of the Princess are giving me a hard time. One of these times, I said "screw it" and ran straight up the stairs to the archer, planning on making it easier for myself, but for some reason, he wasn't there. I figure'd he'd fallen down while I was on my way up. which was true, even though that was the first time ever seeing the archer fall down WHILE I was on my way up to him. Without a second though, I simply jump down to check, but I end up between 2 giant guards who seem to be RIGHT on top of each other, and I should not be able to fit in. They start to attack me, and I start to freak out. With my Power Within on, I just try to do a strong attack with my Demon's Greataxe, and I land a hit on both of the, but then I hear souls coming to me. The archer. I 1 shot him without seeing him. So, I ended up hitting 3 monters all literally on top of me in one swing, before getting squished by 2 glitching giants' shields.

There's a lift in Sens Fortress. It goes up from bottom, makes a halt, then goes up a little more only to drop to the bottom again. I really wondered why the lift halts and goes up again. Now guess what: the ceiling / top of elevator shaft had spikes, nailing me to instadeath!

Another one, in Tomb of Giants I was sliding down a short ladder to find me sliding through the floor! and in to.... may be in to the Bottomless Box...?!?!?! falling, falling, endlessly falling..... (of course, this was a Game Bug, but now, I can laugh about that! and yeah, in about 1 minute it stopped and killed me.)

^lol I forgot about the elevator in Sen's! I invaded a host with a sunbro once, and they'd made some progress in the fortress. I followed their tracks and realized they were attacking the mimic at the bottom of the boulder chute. So I went up the chute, instead, to cut off their route. Instead of waiting at the top, though, where the rotating switch is, I decided to just meet them halfway--which, by the time they finished killing the mimic, was right at the booby-trapped elevator! The phantom came up first, I killed him quickly to have fun with the host, then he came up on the following lift. I just stood right in front of the platform, and the host, paralyzed with fear, stood there and got himself impaled!

Then he sent me hate-mail. Shrug

Hah, I've seen that in a pvp video, where a dw used Force to knock everyone down just as the elevator arrived at the top. The knockdown recovery is slow enough that by the time everyone got back to their feet the elevator had lifted again and impaled them.
