Why did humanity kill the dragons?

I was under the impression that fire killed the dragons, and that we had humanity all along, the deciding factor was the new found strength brought on by fire.

    ... Shrug I couldn't say.

Well I know the newfound fire killed, but why did humanity (in the literal aspect, not the item), kill the dragons. What drove them to want to eliminate every last dragon? I just don't understand the motive.

Oh, I thought about that while posting, but figured it was me over thinking your over thought question.

From the intro it seems like humans lived underground in the time of the dragons. So I assume they started the war to be able to take more land and build above ground. But I think it evolved into a sport, if you look at that room in anor londo, it seems like they were later hunted for sport. I thin thats what lead to near extincton of their species, not the war directly.

I've seen that room, but those are wyvern heads, not dragon heads. Like if you look at Seath, The Everlasting Dragon, and even the undead dragons, they look nothing like those, but the wyvern on the bridge and the ones in Valley of the Drakes do. I'm guessing the "Dragon people" theory of the new londo ruins townsfolk is true and that those drakes are the offspring of said beings.

It could be what you said, they wanted to rule the surface, but I have not a clue. It puzzles me, its like a hate crime lol.

The only other thought I had was that maybe it was an elaborate example of fire destroying nature, like waaaaaaay overly done.

Because we had to. We were the disparity. They were everlasting beings. We were createures of change. It was inevitable we went to war. The age of ancients had to end for humanity to flourish so Gwyn led us to war.

Also its possible Seath convinced Gwyn into declaring war so he could get the primordial crystal.

It's what humans do. Since time immemorial, we have fought things for no reason, we have ruined things for no reason, and we have been all around jerkfaces... for no reason.
