    Have you ever

Post by H3adShotty on Mon Apr 30, 2012 5:22 am

I have probably played this game and beat it several times already, but there was one thing i never noticed until i was goring through Darkroot on my Dex toon, and battled Sif, towards the end of the fight when you get him down to low health, he starts limping, slowing down to the point where his double swing makes him fall over after the second swing, when i realized why he slowed down, i just couldn't bring the finishing blow for about 3 minutes.

No it does not mean i'm a sissy or a wuss because a virtual wolf is limping, it's the story behind it! A loyal companion defends it's friends/masters grave to the bitter end.

So, to those of you who have experienced it, how did you feel when you reached said point, have you ever felt bad after about killing Sif.

Aye. i made a build for the Scions of Artorias and to see Artorias faithfull companion is such agony brought a tear to my eye. The emotion in that wolfs eyes stopped me for a momment.

Then I ended it, a kindness if you will, a warriors death to one of the most badassest of the badass fighters there ever was.

I then sat infront of Artorias Grave and contimplated the meaning of what I had just done.

Loved the whole battle and the concept behind it.
Still, I never got to see Sif limp; I was too busy using pyromancy under his legs. :/

A real man looks into his enemies eyes when he take thier life.

At least thats what Ned Stark told me in Winterfell last week.

Ned Stark... That was a real man right there.

On point, I think that was From's intent. To make a part of you feel bad about killing the bosses, and some of the enemies, but part wanting to do it simply out of mercy.
I agree, out of all the bosses, I felt the most guilty killing Sif, simply because it just simply did not seem A: necessary, or B: justified. Artorias' character put aside, Sif only really seemed like it was guarding it's masters/friends grave, and I don't think I really have to explain how that just doesn't seem right.
Ceaseless discharge was similar. He, being corrupted by his sisters lust for power lost all humanity, clearly save for the desire to watch over the corpse of one of his beloved sisters. Even in that act, his sad face, and groans of pain never dissuade it.
Quaalag, Seathe, the four kings, and the Gaping Dragon are similar too, twisted, corrupted, and driven insane by power.

Bed of chaos, from what I understand, is the product of the sisters will to create a life from their power, and what came of it was just a being of pure and innocent chaos, from which spawned other beings of a similar state. It just seemed like the illegitimate (and of course dangerous) child of a group trying to do something they should never have done.

Ornstein and Smough, the stray demons (and firesage), the iron golem, and the gargoyles all really just seem like they're just sentries and soldiers following orders.

The Butterfly lives in the forest, so in a sense, you're invading it's home, and killing it when it tries to protect itself, all for a key and an ember, more or less.

Nito really only seemed like he was just trying to rest in peace, and I guess I'm only saying that because of him being in that oversize coffin, and the fact that his movements are so slow and labored.

Gwyndolin seemed like he only really just wanted to keep the peace. I mean him creating the illusion of anor londo, likely at the wishes of Gwyn, to keep some semblance of order seemed pretty noble. Not to mention being the leader of the Darkmoons.

Last, but not least, Gwyn. He always seemed to me to be just crazy to. I mean it's seems well established that he was afraid of the undead/hollows, because they were a very real threat to him, and it always seemed to me that lighting the bonfires was his last act of desperation to keep the undead/hollows at bay.

    Sorry for the rant...
TL;DR, it's possible to feel bad about killing all the bosses.

    One comment.
It was my Belief Gwyn was Hollow. The only thing sad about Gwyn is you're essentially killing your father, without him (unless you're some god who never died once), the entire journey to reach him is impossible, and now you must kill him to replace him. Because you want to be the guy.

Ok this may take a bit.

The bed of chaos was created when the witch of izalith, afraid of losing her power when the first flame went out, attempted to recreate the flame. She lost control and chaos took over.

There is a thoery that Ornstein actually took over from the gods and now rules anor londo. Thus he is not a sentry but the "king"

The butterfly is a minion of Seath guarding his stolen ember so no one else can take it.

No one really knows about Nito. He may be trying to create an undead army.

Gwyndolin is trying to fufil Velkas goal by punishing sinners. You kinda right here.

Befrore he linked with the flame Gwyn was noble yet afraid. now hes just a crazy hollow who needs to die.

There are almost no info dumps on this game (except, well, the intro) and even so, they made me care about their characters a lot, to the point of feeling like a bastard just by killing them. Well done, From, well done.
