new player not sure what build i should go with so many to chose from

hello,
i'm still a huge noob, never thought i'd say that after playing a console game for 50 plus hours, that entitlement is usually reserved for MMO games. Anyway, i've been trying out different classes and i'm not sure what type of build i should go for. I have a level 57 pyro but his stats are all over the place.

I think i'll try and use him as my test dummy FO (forwad Advance player) and just use him to gather intel on the game since i'm not use the wiki for spoilers.

Anyhow, at the same time i want to work up a player designed for PvP. I know there is a PvP guild on her but there isnt really any polls or anything i can tell to see if its a popular build or even a good one. Thus, i choose to come to the forums and ask you guys options as to what i should go with. What i'm looking for is an agile player who hits hard and has maybe a couple of spells and/or some pyro abilities. i'm not even sure if thats a good idea or not but i def what some character that will be very well equipped and kick some ***.

Also, i must ask, what is the major difference between a PvP build and a PvE build? I mean i know what they mean but if i have a good PvP character does this mean there will be some in game bosses i cant beat or does it mean that the bosses will be just harder? Also, i can assume that if i have a good PvE character he will obviously not be effective against real players but i'm wondering to what extent and why? Why is it that one character build cant be good for both PvP and PvE? What causes it? thx

Dude, the fun of a Souls game is having no idea what you are doing at the start. Don't plan things ahead. Find a weapon you like, but don't have the stats? Logic be damned and buff yourself up to use that weapon! Planning your first playthrough will suck the fun out of it.

For a first playthrough, I'd recommend an elemental upgrade path (Lightning or Fire). Though those upgrade paths remove stat bonuses from the overall damage, it works wonders up to NG+, where upgrade paths which get benefits from stats outweight the added damage bonus of the elemental paths. I'm saying this from a purely PvE point of view. Not sure about PvP.

The removal of the stat bonuses would help in case your character's stats are all over the place as you say.

AKA do you want to trash other players when you fight them, or....

Do you want to run around and use a themed playstyle.

Thats one of the biggest questions to ask yourself.

Really I'm a Knight type of guy but I think this is a question that only you can really figure out. You just jump into the game a feel what you like best with the game as for style.

This, this, this, all the way this.

Don't follow some strict path and narrow your scope right off the bat. The only way you'll know what you like is by trying everything, and a first playthrough is the best chance to experiment. On your first playthrough you want all the challenges and discoveries to be fresh since it's more about asking yourself "what will it take to beat this" as opposed to "what other ways might I be able to beat this?" Once you've learned what you like and have proven you can handle the game's challenges, then you can start up focused builds that tackle the game's problems in new and interesting ways.

If you like trashing people the the DM are great for you. The buff on a +15 weapon that scales with whatever stat you primarily use is a scary thing and allows to to easily make Glass Cannon and pretty powerful dueling builds. The DMG on a +15 Great Scythe with 40 dex is incredible.

And from there you can also choose to theme yourself on say Gwyndolin, Velka, Priscilla, etc all of the Characters affiliated with Anor Londo or revenge. or make up your own cause form revenge. There you have both.

Or you could kill Gwyndolin for the Sunlight Blade and do the same thing with the DW or Forest hunters.

Think up reasons to fight and your character will fall into the mould. The who's and and whats will follow quickly after the why's. If you know what I mean.

I.e when you figure out your reasons for doing something your character will change to reflect your cause.

For example- I had trouble creating my new Gravelord. I didn't want him to be like my old one, the mad man Siefer Locke, and instead forcused on name and weapons which didnt work out.

Later I asked myself who this person was and why did the do what they did. Malice and Desire were my answers and thus Avrik "the Crow" Tyrhannos of the Westmarches of Astora was born, wielding his might lifedraining Sever and shielded by Nito's protective Charm the Effigy Shield, he sets out to reclaim to honour of his family and end the lineage of those who brough his family low.
