Even though I've played through Dark Souls a few times I've never actually explored it, and there's these three Drakes standing in front of a gigantic gate, what's the story behind that, is something there?

Yeah that gate will take you into New Londo once you've drained it.

Its a pretty bog let down so far I must admit. I wish there were more to see and do.

Yeah, I love the Valley of Drakes, I wish it were bigger and there was more to it. Also... less Drakes! I hate those guys.
I don't want less drakes per se, but if the Valley of Drakes were to be expanded I wouldn't want more drakes to be added in. Some other mob, instead.

Maybe the new content's entrance will be in the Valley!

I think they released that one of the areas will be accessible through the DR Basin. They released one other too but I can't remember where it was.
I third that. I was disappointed to find how small the valley was my first run too.

It sounds so EPIC. Valley of the DRAKES. Like, valley of DRAGONS. You're going to find some epic, awesome dragons to fight and have fun with! But nope. Just a few ol' lightning drakes and a poison one. Teeny tiny area that just is nothing except a shortcut and a place to farm for dragon scales. Wish there was more lore, too. I mean, you find some pretty interesting stuff by the poison drake, and you find the red tearstone ring. Why? I guess that's for another thread haha!

Forgive me if I'm being dense (it's a bit early in the day & my brain isn't fully in gear yet) but if you haven't opened the gate and drained the ruins, how did you get to the Four Kings? If you can't get to the Four Kings, you can't kill 'em if you can't kill 'em you can't get to the showdown with Gwyn at the end and yet you say you've played through the game a few times. Am I missing something here?

It's not that I never opened it, it's just that I had no idea it was the same gate. The only time I've EVER been in Valley of Drakes in the past was exiting Blighttown, so there's no way I would've been able to tell.

Oh I get it now. Fair 'nuff. I wasn't questioning your honesty by the way. So you can get to the Four Kings via Firelink once you've drained the ruins, I've never thought of going that way.

Yeah after passing over the bridges I just kinda dropped down close to the Darkwraith knight, if that's what they're called.

Well, 'I'll go to the foot of my stairs', as they say where I come from. I never realised that. I'm going to try it. Thanks bro'.
