There is probably no secret ending Empty There is probably no secret ending

Post by Buggy Virus Thu Apr 26, 2012 7:11 pm

Everyone is super excited about unraveling that last secret, and getting that special ending which sums up all the loose ends. But thinking about it logically, it is unlikely From hid any overtly secret thing in their game that would take such massive unravelings as we currently are doing.

I know many games do have these kinds of impossibly hard to find easter eggs, but these tend to be larger games with bigger budgets on less of a leash, like Halo, or the Arkham series.

On the other hand, Dark Souls is on a tight leash to get out all the public, expected to be seen content. We know that they went through the sad process where they hit their production deadline with extra content (chimera) they couldn't incorporate and ended up shipping it with the rest of the game.

So, if you are a studio, on a tight deadline from Namco, and you can't even fit in all you plan to have non-secret game actually into the game. Yet for some reason, you force the development team that is already not finishing things to throw in an overly complex puzzle which, (according to the kind of theories we entertain), is near impossible to find and will never be seen.

    Just thinking logically here.

    Clearly you don't know From...

Also, this is the Archives. No "logical thinking" here; facts. Unfortunately for you, only way to prove that there is no secret ending, is to search all over for one--essentially joining the search for one.

So quit trolling in the Archives.

Its also sort of not the point. lol

The search is as big a part of the game as anything. The entire narrative has to be pulled in from obscure places but as fans we do just that because we trust in the creators to deliver.

So far they have so i'm happy to play their game with open fresh eyes the way anyone would enjoy a movie they love over and over, looking for extra details and hoping for an occasional surprise.

    Also

The whole thing is a meta concept! We go hollow on our little quests, losing the purpose of the original task. Thereby participating in a grander narrative. We become characters in lordran wandering about looking at statues for clues and killing anything with a cold detachment because we are on a higher path to a greater secret.

That's why its a genius piece of pure literature.

(Oh and jokes aside you dont know FROM, have a look at some of the lore and ask yourself how deadline threatening it would be to write something that expansive? And then ask whats in a secret really? A new area needing debugging and testing? No some text or an item and maybe an in engine cinematic. Could do it in a day. Could even do it in the next patch for a laugh.)

Yup, can't get enough of the meta-aspects of Dark Souls! Character builds for PvP, search for lore, user-covenants, etc. The game itself has just become an engine for our own games.

I wasn't commenting on the archive and lore is pointless. I love it!

And I only made a conjecture, based off of logical thinking, I didn't say it was true. But I'm not trolling.

The thing is if it takes 255 viewings of the same thing in one game to unlock its secrets its entirely possible theres a third ending here.

I'm actually with Virus on this one. At this point in time, there is now ay there hasn't been at LEAST one person who looked at the game files.

PS3 and xbox dont allow you to go surfing through the coding and files like pc, thatss why there isnt much modding in the game. We cant actually search the game disk for a secret ending.

Fair enough. But like I said, if you're going to make a claim like that in the archives, you need to back it up with some facts. So...

Welcome to the search for the secret ending! (Or lack thereof.)

It is very possible. Both Halo 3 and Halo Reach have had massive easter eggs spoiled by someone cracking into the files and looking around. It may not be easy 9I have no clue, to be frank), but Dark Souls has a large population driven by a need or information.

Well as Acidic stated when the PC somes out we'll know for sure. probably about 5 minutes before its official release. but until then we'll keep searching and keep trying methods to find it.

You know, even if there is not a 3 ending, is good to dream and share ideas sometimes. And we did, oh we did. The whole archives is knowledge, information and dreams being shared. And the fact that it MAY have a 3 ending is what really make us not give up and keep searching.

I completely agree, the sharing of lore theories and such is great and should definitely be kept up.

I am merely saying that the chances of something concrete being found for our efforts is slight; there is more to it then a secret ending though.

Had doubts on finding a third ending, but I did it for the lore. I never trusted any lizards, and knowledge from others is not always viable. Sometimes you have to look deeper, and in the search for story you bask in enlightenment and knowledge. Then you truly embrace the dark and sunlight.

One day I'm going to come onto the forums in a hurry, say I found something, then never post again. I'll never go on the PS3 again as well.

You guys will check my name, and notice I have a new trophy that is marked as Pendant, and it has been achieved. Then one day when you die, you'll be met with a plane of blinding white Acidic, I'll hold out a hand towards you.

"Come with me, it's been eons, but I can now share with you the secret."

I'll tell you it and then you'll say, "I figured it had something to do with the Egg."

    What. . .

But like I said, if you're going to make a claim like that in the archives, you need to back it up with some facts. So...

    Umm. . . because I post here. . .

I can like the general Dark Souls lore, and at the same time think that logically a studio on a tight budget that barely met its deadline probably didn't have the opportunity to throw extraneous things into the game.

And I don't know what people are talking about something that needs to be viewed 255 times.

Honestly, I'm a little disheartened when I read a really cool bit of lore someone came up with, or some serious of dots that was just connected, then at the very bottom of this post they throw in something along the lines of, "so now if we do X and Y we might get the secret ending!"

Does it all really need to be because there is a secret ending?

Didn't somebody already manage to go through the game's coding and only find random conversations that were excluded from the game?

Like the Shiva dialogue about the Chaos Blade, Oscar's dialogue throughout the game as he becomes your nemesis, etc.?

    Or was that BS?
