How do they do it?
I really dont understand how everyone destroys the Four Kings alone. I have tried every method in the book multiple times throughout all my playthroughs, and none of them work. And at level 257, you would think I would be able to destroy them. I have very good intelligence and faith, as well as endurence, strength, etc..... just check the link in my signature, it shows you my current build. Can someone tell me a sure-fire way of destroying these guys? I have tried using magic, fire, tanking them with strong weapons, tanking them with fast buffed weapons, I have even tried using iron flesh, and none of these work for me. Am I doing something wrong, or do none of these methods work when your on your 5th playthrough?

Re: How do they do it?
Biker is this when you're on NG+4? Or just a random playthrough?
Let's be fair, you need to be pinwheeling constantly and attacking well too. It's crazy when you get that high doing those guys :|

Re: How do they do it?
I used to think you need the flip ring but it's completely unnecessary. The single biggest tip on soloing the kings is recognizing their most common attack, the overhand (right hand) diagonal slash. Watch for it, you'll be able to see it coming, lower your shield and casually stroll around the King's right side, don't roll. You now have full stamina, time to flask or Blossom up or Praise the Sun even, and his big inviting back to start slashing to pieces.
Damage is also huge, of course. Buffs destroy the Kings, especially SLB and DMB.
And when you kill a king KEEP SLASHING. As he fades away you're still doing damage to their overall life bar. If you do that you'll never have to face a fifth king again.

Dodging is better than blocking for the kings. All their attacks are well telegraphed.

Re: How do they do it?
Like callip and Buggy said, it's all about dodging their attacks (whether by rolling or not).
There's really only 2 things to consider when fighting the 4 Kings:
- Learning to dodge all their attacks
- Being able to dish out enough damage to kill each King in a timely manner.
The first, once you've learned, is good no matter what playthrough you're on. The second is largely dependent on which playthrough you're on, but is never insurmountable.
Try this gear: http://tinyurl.com/7wx3dgv (it's your build, I just switched the gear around)
I find medium roll isn't bad against the Kings, and having some poise will make mistakes more forgiving. As for attacking, I think you have 2 great options: melee, or magic. Either:
- Attune all the Crystal Soul Spears you have, then fill the rest with either Soul Spears or Homing Crystal Soul Masses. Then, simply dodge, cast, dodge, repeat. You can safely get a CSS off in between dodging their attacks. This way they'll never hit you, and you'll deal massive amounts of damage with that spell.
- Attune Crystal Magic weapon and fight them melee. (If you choose this, then you can change the Crown of Dusk to something with more protection. The crown doesn't make CMW stronger.)
Also, I sneaked the Crystal Ring Shield in there only for blocking their homing magic missile. When you see a King casting that, switch to the shield, stand your ground and block, then resume your chosen offense. Any other attack, you're better off dodging than blocking.

Re: How do they do it?
my friend gave me a tactic to try and I used it and I won..... WOOOOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!! I basically put on Smoughs armor, Havel shield, and some pyromancy, then rushed him with the black knight great axe until my stamina ran out, and used great combustion until it came back..... rinse and repeat and done.

Interesting strategy. I'm going to have to try this out since I'm right at the Four King's door and have the same issue, can never kill them on my own and usually wait to find a summon's sign.

Good job. I have only ever soloed them once, and it was hell. I congratulate you sir.

On the topic of avatars, my new friend Arget, why does your avatar say Dark souls when the boss it depicts is the Penetrator?

Oh I had a friend made it for me. However they weren't very familiar with the series much so it came out with the Penetrator for the image rather then something with Dark Souls.
I didn't mind and I liked how it came out so I've kept it.

I sort of wanted something a little cooler..... I mean, I absolutely love Legend of Zelda, but It didn't really fit the frightening fealing that Dark Souls tends to give you.

Re: How do they do it?
For my mage I stand 'just' out of reach to dodge and cast soul spears and soul masses. If he casts any spells I just block them w/ the crest shield. This is a really easy method to take down a 4 kings.

There are plenty of people with XBL though, stick a thread up in the 'Player Trading and help' section

Re: How do they do it?
I solo'd them on first playthrough. As I was in the neighbourhood I thought I'd go and see what all the fuss was about, not expecting to win of course, so I was amazed when I did. I was wearing Havel's armour, Havel's Ring and had the Gravelord Sword eqipped and I just kind of stood there and wacked them one at a time. As soon as I'd got rid of one, I ran as fast as I could to the next and that's all, no magic or anything. I guess it was my lucky day, skill had absolutely nothing to do with it because I hadn't a clue what I was doing really.

Re: How do they do it?
I was a sl 80 strength endurance only guy with a bit of dexterity.
I genuinely battered them first try, first playthrough. I think i was busting the balder shield plus 5 and the lautrec set/ mask of the child with a black knight sword plus 5.
Had no idea what i was doing or what was happening. Just rolled about confused and slammed them as much as my estus flask let me. Frightened to lose all my souls because i thought the abyss would be an area, so i expected a bonfire. I didnt even know what humanity did at that point lol

Re: How do they do it?
I tanked the living hell out of them first play through.
As I have talked about before my first play was totally blind and by the time I found them and figured out how to get to them without dying, (yes I jumped down without the ring, lol), I was way over leveled. No idea how high I was, but it was at least 150, maybe even 180. So by then I just tank/poised them and beat them down.
On my next dozen toons or so I of course knew what I was doing, and other than my dragon none of the others have gone over 120. I have had many great challenging fights with them, including coops. Lowest I have beat them was at level 23. It was glorious, lol.
