Pure Pyromancer

Just wondering what the community thinks of Pure Pyromancers. I'm talking 10 attunement slots with multiple castings of Great Combustion, Great Fireball, etc. We all know how powerful some of these spells can be, leave your thoughts.

Breath of fresh air?
Stupid?
Cool?
Haven't run into one yet?

I have never ever run into a pure pyro, and I think it would be pretty cool to see. Go for it.

Edit: Just don't Combustion spam!

I've been doing one of these and it's wicked fun.

I usually just spin around casting fireballs, haven't gotten any hate mails, and sometimes people think it's funny when I black out their screen with Acid Surge/Toxic Mist/Poison Mist.

I will never use Pyromancy EVER again. I will never use the Hornet's Ring EVER! I am above griefers.

Wait... Why is Pyromancy grieferish? I mean, combustion spam is, but I don't think Pyro in general is?

Id say use it as a PVE to help others and absolutley punish invaders. i mean hey, who invited them into your world? as far as i see it, its home turf... being a pyro spam invader might be a litte unjust for the guy just trying to make his way from A to B

Playing a dual wielding Pyromancer DW lvl 60, loving it, currently running around with the Ring of Fog in the Tomb of Giants and spreading the word of Izalith without fail.
Before I turned into this inflaming being I was actually infecting people with the egg-head using the Mists... what can be much more fun than this?

my buddy is actually doing a VIT/DEX/END/ATN path for a pure pyromancer, its going well, if you equip a flame claymore for pve and a flame washing pole for pvp, the class is scary as hell, especially if you have acid surge, which only makes the damage that much greater.

You might have a point if 80%(or higher if you're me) of the people that use Pyromancy didn't use Great Combustion. I've used it, it is just down right cheap. It can stunlock, it has great range, can be spammed and does enormous amounts of damage. Whenever it's used I just stand still in defiance of the battle.

Just accused of hacking on PS3 for dealing 924 damage with one Great Combustion :|

The ***?! Alright, I admit GC is pretty dangerous, but it has low range compared to the greatswords and up, you can roll through it and around it like most pyromancies and it's punishable if you can see it coming, and you can if you catch the lean forward animation before it.

Stun=|=Stunlock. It can't.
It's the ultimate PvP spell while still being 5000 times more acceptable than WotG, since it's way easier to defend against fire; also it has no knockback, being not as terribly easy to punish though.

In 120(+) PvPs you can always have a black knight shield in reserve... taking away the danger completely.
You can play cheaply with almost everything, GC is one of the threats I would raise among the last to be spoken of. It's simply a good attack and when someone spams it against you, -you- might get the feeling of it being overpowered simply because you don't know the counters.

Why would you compare pyromancy to a greatsword? That's like comparing a bandit dagger to a bow, or a dinosaur to a tiger. What relevance do they both have? Greatswords aren't a part of this discussion. Yes, Great combustion has amazing range for how much damage it has backing it up. 900+ damage in one cast is entirely too much damage for the functionality that spell has. 200 damage would be closer to what it should be capable of. It shouldn't have the reach of a standard straight sword or higher at it's damage. Demon's souls had a perfect combustion spell that sacrificed range for damage. It didn't have both plus stunlocking. To be honest i think GC being able to stunlock is an issue with poise. Poise has been jacked up from day 1. Yes, they tried to make heavier gear more viable, but what they achieved was actually just annoying. Ninja Flipping fatties is annoying.

Sorry about the rant on poise, but the facts are this.

Don't wear Giants or Havels and actually wear armor based on aesthetics instead of poise/weight ratio. You will see how toxic it can be. It even stuns Gwyn the last boss.

I always run around with 40-56 poise, never more, if then less; ... and I can't confirm.

Gwyn gets stunned from everything, every boss gets stunned from everything.
Pick an Estoc and pierce the *** of Smough for long enough, eventually he will wiggle in fear for a second.
I fought Gwyn with daggers and he got stunned every now and then...

I think what we're getting confused about is stun vs stunlock. Because stunlock means repeatedly hitting, or in this case casting, and keeping the person stunned.

As for the comparison, it's range is the range of a bandit's knife R1, and it's still avoidable at that range.

Anyways, lets stay on the topic of actual builds focused around Pyromancy. No need to get into an argument over something like the use of a single spell.

All I asked for is the confirmation of Blade of the Sun's post, since I would guess he's wrong.

Elseway it was never my intention of turning the thread into a different direction, sorry if I helped it to happen.

Will sometimes stun but wont stunlock. Really great for ganking...if your in to that sort of thing of course.

It's in no way more worth than yours, it's just that his word underlines mine, yours does not.
