Post by Isirith Tue Nov 13, 2012 12:12 pm

Have gotten my real life friend into Dark Souls..
I thought it'd be a great idea! I thought I wouldn't have to play alone
or with randoms anymore, I'd have someone I know in person to chat about Dark Souls
with and plan outrageous play-throughs with!

    Alas... This isn't the outcome...
The outcome is sitting on Skype listening to this ******* complain about everything!
    Boss' are ********, enemies are ********, NPC's are ********, I'm ******** etc etc.

If he gets invaded, the invader is a **** right off the bat!
If he wins he taunts and is a massive ******* to the invader through messages
    (thankfully he wins very little)
If he loses, now wait for it! In ANYWAY POSSIBLE the invader is a cheater, noob, glitcher
    no skill, no lifer.

My attempts to explain things to him has failed. I no longer explain things
he gets >told< how things are and if he doesn't like it too *** off back to CoD.
Ofcourse... Then I'm being an ******* to him and not helping him... -_-

Someone suggested I punch him in the throat and get better friends, although funny
I lack the physical strength to perform such an act, I'm disabled. sad

I just don't know how to get him to be civil to other players, sure we all get annoyed and frustrated with
the various douchébags on the game but like myself and I'm hoping many others we've learned to just brush
    it off and move on.
Or in regards to PvE if we fail, we change our approach next time.

And I swear he has some sort of insecurity or something. Cause if I go on Dark Souls without him
I'm automatically levelling ahead of him cause I'm afraid of 'losing' as he puts it..
Although last time I checked I've got 4 characters of varying levels and I've butchered this game roughly
    113 times.

He has yet to make it past Anor Londo.. :S

Hopefully one of you upstanding members Invade him and give him one hell of an agonizing time.
Speaking of which, he got trolled by a Gravelord in Catacombs the other day for what must of been 2 hours++

And because he's deemed himself Mr. Knowitall of Dark Souls you're all wrong if you don't agree with him.
Oh! Emit Force is ******** and overpowered and only cowards use it apparently.. ;/

Pretty sure that Miracle leaves you open..? What do I know anyway I'm an *******.

Sorry for the rant, needed to get this **** off of my chest.

I don't understand how someone can get so butt hurt over a game!?
Yes, I understand when someone flat out cheats that's just low.

But when it's your own incompetence that restrains your progression of the game, come on!

Here's hoping the next person I PvP they hit my Avatar so *** HARD!
That the sword pierces the tv followed by my face.

People who complain about being beaten at this game just need to learn a simple phrase: "I guess they're better than I am". Did you get backstabbed? Don't give 'em your back next time. Did they use WoG? Dodge backward. And on it goes...

Sure, there are always a few gankers, glitchers, modders, and so forth. But you know what? 95% of the people who beat me are just a bit better than me, that's all. I don't care, and I won't let it ruin my experience. I don't even mind the casters, since I like the challenge of trying to come up with ways of countering their shenanigans (hell, my highest level toon is a mage...but I get bored with just casting in PvP).

I noticed something about Gaming in general .

    Back in the early 90's:
"Oh, i lost guess i have to get better"

    Now :
    "Stupid Cheater/Hacker/Noob/Cont "
What theyre basicly saying: "Its not my lack of skill that i lost they are playing wrong"

    :|
Maybe i didnt word it quite as elegant as others can, but i hope you get the Idea

I feel so much better about myself now. I have a lot of hatemail to catch up on sending.

Seriously though Isirith that sucks that your friend is taking what could a great joint experience and destroying it so very thoroughly

I've actually tried to do this a couple of times now. My one friend played it for an hour and then told me Skyrim was better, so I didn't argue with him about it and just accepted the game back, and the other was SOOOO painfully bad at it, even with me advising him that I kind of just gave up. He killed pretty much every NPC he saw the first like 6-7 hours of play and then couldn't figure out why everything was so difficult, and despite not being able to smith any of his equipment, or having a BB, or the WSS, he refused to start over. It was hard to watch.

That was utterly fabulous. Your friend is either a comic genius or a rapscallion of the highest order.

Def hire someone to punch him in the throat.

I get that DaS makes peoples' asses ache, I've seen it myself (my god have I seen it), but holy god.
When I see that kind of griefer in any game, I always ask myself what's wrong with them. Sincerely. There must be something fundamentally wrong with someone who busts blood vessels over these things.

Yeah, my friend attacks everything in sight and somehow it's my fault for not warning him.
Really annoys me that I'm having to hold his hand on his first play through and I know
EXACTLY what he'll say when he competes it.

"Is that it?" probably followed by "That was easy"

Don't be a douchébag and play it by yourself, don't cry to me for a build and the location to
    everything.
Figure it out yourself through trial and error.

just tell him what he is doing wrong and what bothers you about that.
if he doesn't change his attitude play without him - don't let him destroy your fun! If he is a real friend he will change, or understand what you say and let you play alone

Right? Just by allowing yourself to be helped the first time through you're ruining the experience for yourself in a lot of ways, but as veterans it's kind of hard to not help people out when you see them making silly mistakes. I attacked Solaire my first play through. I thought I was being all sneaky and clever too because he wasn't noticing me sneaking up behind him.

Yeah it was pretty lame to say the least. But I can still say I got through it without help. Even can be proud to say that I found the Asylum secrets without any direct help, outside of orange SS messages anyway. Absolutely missed the great hollow entirely though.

I tried to have a friend play Dark Souls. Okay, I kind of *forced* him to play it because none of my friends would play it and the ONLY reason was: "I don't want to die!". Like, he exaggerated it thinking that he would get 1 shotted left and right. I wanted him to play so he understood that it wasn't all that it was said to be:

I regret what I did. I tried to give him minimal advice so he got a bit of the experience without being frustrated (I knew I was my first playthrough going back and forth between NLR and the catacombs). You know what? I'll use dialouge:

Me: "Hey. You see that key? Grab it and open the door"
    Friend: "How?" *Opens door*
Me: "Those orange messages will serve as your tutorial they'll tell you more or less what you need to know"
Friend: "I know how to play" *Skips messages; had only played Demon Souls tutorial 1 or 2 years ago*
    *Reach Asylum Demon*
Friend: "Oh really? I have to beat him with a broken sword? See! This game is hard"
    Me: "READ THE MESSAGE!"
Friend: *Runs other way; gets smashed*
*He continues to walk counterclockwise until he nears the exit*
Friend: "How did you dodge? X or O?"
    Me: "Take the door!"
Friend: "What door?" *Gets killed by Asylum Demon* "See? First boss and he kills me"
    Me: I'm ashamed to - 2707236321
*Re-do; he finds the door, but he walks to it*
Friend: Oh okay, I though I had to beat him, cause that was too hard"
Me: "There is an arrow guy ahead, you have to grab your shield"
Friend: "Yeah, yeah" *Grabs shield"...How did you equip items again?"
    Me: "READ THE MESSAGES!"
Friend: *Ignores messages and goes after hollow after 30 seconds of figuring how to equip his sword* *Kills hollow and passes fog*
Friend: Where do I go from here? *Boulder smashed* "Oh great, that was cheap!"
Me: "Open the door down the stairs in case you want to rest"
Friend: "Yeah, don't worry" *Opens door*
Me: "Talk to the guy behind the wall"
    Friend: "What wall?"
Me: The one the boulder smashed
    Friend: This one?
    Me: ...
*Proceeds to skip all of Oscars dialouge*
    Me: Now go up
*Goes up and confronts the hollow, the losses half his HP because he didn't guard*
Friend: 1 enemy! See what it did to me? 1 ENEMY
Me: If you had just used your shield that you picked up, this could have gone flawlessly! It would have rebounded all his moves and he was open!
Friend: ...How did you block again? *Keeps moving without using Estus* It was the L1? *Turns corner* oh! *Spams parry*
Me: Don't parry! You aren't ready for that! Just BLOCK!
Friend: It will kill them if I do! *Dies* See? Died 2 times in the TUTORIAL, I don't know how you can play this game...I want out...
    Me: Beat the tutorial...at least.
*Re-do still loses1/4 of his life to the lone hollow*
    Me: *Sigh*
Friend: How did you equip your items again?
    Me: The messages...
*Manages to equip Estus an heal*
*This time he doesn't parry, but rather just spams R1 and beats all 3 in a fight, miraculously, after healing once and having half of his life left*
Me: You should have 2-handed if you were going to do that. I kept telling you it would have been better *I was telling him to 2-hand it*
Friend: How did you 2-hand again?
    Me: I'm ashamed to - 2707236321
*Skips the important message of falling attack and, luckily, the armored hollow; enters the fog gate*
Friend: Woah! What do I do?
    Me: JUMP!
Friend: To my death? No th-
    Me: JUMP AND ATTACK! Quick!
Friend: How do I att- *Jumps anyways and sticks the jump attack as the boss gears up his anti-camping attack*
Friend: That didn't kill him in 1? How am I suppose to beat him?
    Me: How about you block?
*Fights the boss without blocking, 2-handing his weapon and walking, no dodging. Wins anyways*
Friend: Phew...Man, this game is hard. I'm done, right?
    Me: Yes...you are.

I have realized that some people really aren't capable of winning games for more than 1 obvious reason...

Nope. I told him that all I wanted him to do was do the tutorial and I would never ask again. I'm sure he was smart enough to know that all he had to do was get it over with as fast as possible, which meant do his best. Instead he is genuinely baffled by what to do. I wish I could believe he was pretending and just slacking off.

Seignar, your friend seemed baffled alright and I bet it was frustrating trying to explain
    stuff to him.
But this friend of mine you can't explain anything!
    YOU ARE ALREADY WRONG!! Y'see?
Regardless of how experienced YOU 'think' you are at Dark Souls he will always be more
    experienced.
He's like it with everything in my life. He has a better job than me (Well ofcourse! I am disabled
    I don't work. :/)
His girlfriend is better looking than mine, and is generally better than mine.
He's a more awesome person than me cause he can purchase everything on release
    and I can't etc etc.

The newest development regarding Dark Souls is we were farming Nito as White Phantoms
I'd killed Nito with two hosts.
He on the other hand hadn't killed Nito at all. But had been summoned 7 times

"You've only been summoned twice? I've been summoned loads! Must be because I'm
a better player and I look awesome"

Oh RIGHT! That must be why huh? O_o
Cause you know connection problems and stuff don't factor into this whole summoning thing.

Evidently I suck and look like a knob..
Excuse me while I kill myself and make the world a better place.

Unfortunately it seems that not everyone has the adaptability and endurance needed to play Dark Souls (or to do many other things in some cases). Some people just refuse to try, some refuse to accept help from the tutorial, some simply don't try to think about what they are doing, and some cannot seem to recognize that part of the draw of this game is that you are always learning. I have been playing for a while (ableit the entire time was spent offline, as I am playing on xbox and do not currently have gold membership), and found the game immediately enjoyable (though I tried starting out as a sorcerer and quickly decided it would not be possible for my playstyle to revolve around such profusely defenseless attacks). Everyone needs to learn from their mistakes, and this is especially true with Dark Souls. I simply hope that this simple concept can reach those who have yet to understand it.

A guy at gamestop suggested I buy skyrim instead of Dark souls my response after I paid for dark souls was ohh well you see Im buying another copy cause my last got scratched. And its a shame a lot of the people who didnt like dark souls were just imature, then I dont need a developer to hold my hand when I cross the street do you.

There's a video on YouTube of someone called Michael playing Dark Souls. It sums up exactly the attitude of the examples given on here. It's also absolutely hilarious. I wish I could supply the link but I don't know much about technical stuff. Sorry about that. It's pretty easy to find though, so go on, give yourselves a treat if you haven't seen it already.
