What did you guys think of this game? Personally I just got it and the thing that disappoints me most is the art scheme. Its far too bright, not representing the apocalyptic scenario at all. However the combat is pretty good.

Re: Darksiders
I have heard similar feedback from other people about the art style, but I always liked the direction. The characters seem very chunky and stylized. I found the environments to be bland, but I like the look. Like you said though, it is not dark and gritty for such a heavy subject matter.
I beat the first one when it came out and just downloaded it on PSN again to play since number 2 will be out shortly. The graphics are not quite as good as I remembered.

I liked the concept, it just felt sparse and bland. For a Zelda type game, you hope to be captivated by the atmosphere but it felt like any generic post apocolyptic world. An example of it done right would be Enslaved.

Re: Darksiders
This series is kind of my guilty pleasure. I know it's completely over the top and cliche but I had fun playing it, and probably will buy the new one used.

Re: Darksiders
I thought the actual game mechanics were really enjoyable. It's not, IMO, the greatest game ever by most standards, but it's fun. I think the majority of the reviews I read for it, even the ones written by people who were bashing it, ended by saying the same thing. "But it's fun." What more is there really? Isn't that the whole point of playing games? I think the more complex games get the easier it is to forget that.

I agree that what Ive seen so far is fun, however its very unimmersive to see the art scheme. It throws me out of the world to see it so bright. Hopefully as I get further into the game itll get better.

Re: Darksiders
I hear you there. The new one looks a little grittier in that respect. My biggest problem with it was that I didn't like War. I felt no connection with him at all. It was like playing as an Iron Maiden album cover. Which is cool in a sense but how much can you relate to it on a personal level? None of us run to the hills all the time. Sometimes we just want to sit and relax and have more tea vicar.

Re: Darksiders
I hear ya. the entire time Im talking to Vulgrim Im waiting for him to offer me a cuppa.
I think the lack of story at the beginning results in a lack of connection. You kinda just start killing stuff. War just appears and has to fight and his anger at being betrayed isnt really gone into with any depth. I'm hoping they learn from their mistakes but it also seems like they'll be changing the mechanics a bit. Death will be much weaker tan war so you're going to have to dodge more often than with more. Which is okay for me cause all I do is dash away, I dont use this blocking thing.

Re: Darksiders
Yeah, War has absolutely no emotional depth. He ranges from like pretty pissed to really pissed, but his tone or expression doesn't really change at all. Which kinda works with Link, but Link is an endearing character for a multitude of other reasons. War is just kind of static. I see hope in Death. I think just in the trailers he's already a more deep and likable character. Plus, like you said, he just looks like he's going to be more fun to use. Don't get me wrong though. I didn't dislike Darksiders 1. I bought it, still own it, don't intend to sell it. I think I can see myself playing it again once or twice somewhere down the road.

Re: Darksiders
Yeah the gameplay again looks good but they didnt do anything to the art. I'll probably end up getting it if I like 1 enough though.

Re: Darksiders
I felt the darkness in Darksiders, but then I took an- I mean, then I played Dark Souls and learnt the true meaning of dark.
