    Permanent Server Shutdown Thoughts...

Post by mugenis4real on Mon Apr 23, 2012 4:18 pm

I really can't believe one of the greatest games of this generation is going to lose it's online component. Demons Souls gave me feelings that no other game could. Imminent sadness sad

I'm guessing your from NA? But if you really are desperate for online, you could just import a European or a Japanese version, those servers will still be up.

The numbers seem to have mysteriously shot up since this news, I wonder why silly

Would that work? Isn't it based on where you are? As opposed to the version of your game disk?

The control servers (for messages, summon signs, invasions, bloodstains, tendency) is located in JP, NA and EU, according to what version you have. The Atlus version only connects to the Atlus control server, Asian to From, and Namco to EU.
But when you connect to another player it changes to p2p, so you could be playing with your next door neighbour without any latency even on the JP version.
The chinese/korean? versions also have english texts, but not the japanese.
(someone correct me if I'm wrong on these)

So you could, in theory, order a version from outside NA and still have access to online features from within the NA region?

You will have access to the server, but only the server that caters to the game-version you have. There will of course be more asian players on the asian Sony release, and europeans on the Namco release, so random co-op/invasions should overall be more laggy if you play from US.
We have not heard anything about the EU or Asian servers shutting down yet, so fingers crossed they will continue to stay up.

I'd hope they stay up, considering the companies that are holding the servers aloft are Namco and FROM, unless with the next game FROM chooses a different distributor then hopefully the EU servers will remain operational.

I should think that, at least the Asian, servers would stay opened for awhile. You make a good point about lag though.
