... you are doing it wrong, sir. your poll is broken, if you inteded the use of it.

Different places at different times. The rats are good for beginners, however constant use of bonfire is necessary. Tomb of Giants and baby skeletons is good too, however patience and trigger fingers to grab it when it pops up is necessary. The Medusas of the Archives are also there to farm as well, and function similar to rats (the Medusas take the longest to get to, so it is more so for emergencies only, and not much for farming (unless you keep the horn functioning so they always come to you)).

Rats in the Depths have a decent drop rate and can either be gathered to mass kill or easily one shotted as you run through. After a few passes through the tunnels, you will find a good pattern to net multiple humanities. Also, it is hard to be killed by them (though death always seems to happen when one gets to comfortable in Dark Souls), so, stack soft humanity and wear the covetous gold serpent ring and you will be swimming in hard humanity after awhile of farming.

Good way to stack soft humanity and souls is to help others with bosses.

Edit: I guess a good question would be, what sl (soul level) are you?

The Depths is a great spot for co-op.

If it was my choice than I would probably farm the rats in the depths, mainly because its really easy and its near a bonfire. I never really tried the other areas.

Depths for sure. Using great combustion takes out a few at a time and makes quick work. I only do the 17 easy to get to rats then homeward bone. I dont worry about the 1 or 2 hanging in the water drainage area, it slows me down.

If you're a high enough lvl I would go with the baby skellies in ToG. The rats are good for low level but the drop rate doesn't even compare to baby skellies. Covetous Gold ring, Symbol of Avarice, 10 Humanity. You'll have no problem. Don't let the symbol kill you. Discretionary healing!

Before placing the Lord's Vessel: The rats in The Depths.

After placing the Lord's Vessel: The baby skeletons in Tomb of the Giants.
