Completely without shield?

Has anyone of you beaten the game without using shields? Do you have a ''no-shield''-character? To compensate for the lack of a shield you must be able to move very quickly, staying below 25% equip burden. An good armor with some poise is necessary too I guess.
I wanted to make a shieldless pyromancer build. Experiences or suggestions anyone?

I'm in the middle of a new game plus run through and just beat S&O and every prior boss with nothing but my demon's great machete and my armor.

It is nothing short of awesome when you see a boss stagger from that thing.

Killed Gwyn with it on new game prior to this run. Does absurd damage and like I said staggers bosses.

My conan toon only used a 2 handed zweihander. Didnt have to worry sbout equipment load as he only had his conan underwear on. Not being able to parry was worse than having no shield as i was still able to block... Kinda.

Worst part.

Lol sounds cool the way you say it.
But it was more of a tactical chess like playthru, had to use the map to my advantage with a lot of hit and run/pulling/running right past mobs.

I honestly prefer to play with a Talisman/Catalyst/Pyro Flame in my left hand and a weapon in my right, even in PvE. I've never done an intentionally 'no shield' playthrough, though - I keep a shield in my off-hand slot, and while it's generally for parrying, I do choose the shield simply because it has the ability to block and thus is more useful than my barehands (i.e. when a Taurus Demon lunging hard attacks me, I'm glad I'm not empty handed...).

I've been playing a lot lately with a parrying dagger instead of my shield in the offhand. I reckon I could beat the game pretty easily like this provided I had the ninja ring on.

I haven't yet got to place the lord vessel, but my thief toon has a parrying dagger/target shield in her left hand and uchi/bandit knife in her right, thief armour set with Eastern chest armour, ring of favour & protection and the hornet ring.

@mildred - SICK!! I am gonna HAVE to try that! Doesnt Conan use an Axe in the comics? And a viking Sword on the new movie... Hmmm.. choices! Maybe duel axes?

Honestly, props to anyone that can fight without a shield in my eyes. I probably could run around with a parry weapon in offhand after a crapton of trying but I love my blocking to much to give it up

Yea i've tried this myself, was definately more challenging but was good fun... however i stopped to start a new account so i havnt acually finished that one yet.

I'm playing without one, PVE and PVP. Currently struggling but I'm having some good results. Beating Sif without getting hit with the Black Knight Great Sword felt really great.

Maybe a Broadsword and Bastard sword char would match the 'Viking sword' you are talking about. Cleric helm and chainmail might look right too.. hmm.

you can parry with bare hand. when i wanted to parry with my no shield and bastard, i simply switched to one hand and parried with the left. it just requires a bit different timing than shields. the only boss fight that was annoying was giant ornstein and his random autoaim.

Sorry for the off-topic post, but your sig picture is awesome. Where did you get that?

The only shield I use is the crest but I just use it for stamina. I keep it on my back. I don't block with it. Same goes for pvp.
