our family has played dks so much that the image of the soul counter and estus flask have been burned into the screen:shock: this kinda sucks when trying to play other games or watch movies but thats to be expected i guess from a 5 year old 40 inch hd tv.... i'd guess we have something like 600+ combined hours on dks in this house hold between me, my dad and my cousin sooo...

Re: darksouls time=overload for tv
Is it a projection screen tv or just a regular HD? I hadn't considered that possibility. Which is odd for me. I'm poor and thus usually very careful with my belongings.

regular hd i think... the burns not bad enough to see text but you can clearly tell what it is.... we'd thought they'd fixed this sort of issue around 7 years ago... guess not

This is likely to occur on plasma HDTVs.

That's easy to say when it's not yours. If it happened to me I wouldn't be able to afford another one until September. I'd probably transform into the hulk.
@Sparkly: I know the older projection screen televisions used to come with warnings to never play video games on them because things like life bars could very very easily be burned into the screen. One of my old roommates used to have one and we had to take 15 minute breaks every 45 minutes or so. I don't know what the guidelines are for regular HD's. Evidently it is possible.

Re: darksouls time=overload for tv
Are you playing on PS3 or XBox? I have noticed that if you leave a game on pause on the XBox the screen will dim down after a while to stop this happening. I haven't noticed this happening on the PS3 though, which is worrying because I'm playing Dark Souls on PS3 and very occasionally I'll leave the game running for a few minutes (only if I'm in a safe place & offline of course).
Does any one know if the PS3 has this facility? If it hasn't, then I think it should have.

Re: darksouls time=overload for tv
My plasma has a demons souls quick select and world/character tendency burn-in. I have learned to give my tv ~5 minutes of 'snow' after a long game session, before I turn it off, to decrese the burn-in. Whatever you do, never idle at the 'login' screen on dark souls if you have a plasma, you'll be stuck with a gigantic 'Dark Souls' logo burnt in across the whole screen.

Re: darksouls time=overload for tv
It might not help, but once my brother paused a movie on my tv and the credits got burned into the screen. If you change to a channel that gives 'snow' like the above poster said, sometimes it removes the damage.
Check your tv's options menu and look for anti-burn in or burn in prevention features. My new 28' tv that I use has a dim feature to help prevent burn in, i think most hd tv's have some forum of mild protection.

well this is one reason plasmas are going out of fashion (and they burn too much energy too)

I don't think that PS3 has this ability in game. I know my Netflix does it, as does the XMB, but I don't think Ive ever seen games themselves do it.

Re: darksouls time=overload for tv
thanks for all the data, guess i'll try the snow thing... oh well hdtv's are getting cheaper every day so it won't be hard to replace if the burn in becomes intolerable... what with two medical professionals as parents

Yeah.....look for steals. I got my 65" for $900 with a $50 rebate from Bing (although they stopped this I think) and sold my old one for $200. Progress!
