On very rare occasions of boredem I go back to the FFXI forums since sometimes decent discussions happen, ended up finding out about this. For the sake of giving credit since I'm copying the links posted, Sylph.Izzybella thanks for point it out even if you'll never see this.

Saddens me this is what America is up to considering the other more important things that need to be taken care of.

Uh...Just a heads up, we already signed a trade agreement that will force us to enforce rules similar to Sopa/Pipa, so already it's set up. They just have to start enforcing it, which they will have to as part of the agreement. Let me look up the name, I know Ireland signed it without even letting it's people know, we did the same. I think some Eastern European countries even got in arms and rioted because of their government secretly signing it. ACTA I think it was.

Yeah I remember the Ireland thing, I was not aware the EU pulled the same stunt though.

One of the few posts that got a lot of support went on about a rant that Hollywood was part of the problem because they are stuck in the past and old methods and can't change. So they keep trying to strangle everything to keep making money, but will eventually lose and drag others with them.

If I remember correctly papers were told not to publish stories about the signing.

Yeah, the world is heading for quite an interesting crash right now. As if the economy couldn't get any worse, they've found a way to mess things up even more.

If they want to screw the world up, there are still plenty of nuclear weapons laying around. It isn't that hard to press a button at all ya' know? Because that is basicly what they are attempting to do to the online part of the world.

I imagine that America is going to head into dictatorship at somepoint, I wouldn't be surprised if it's done like Hitler using a false flag operation to spook America. Honestly as much as I like democracy, this is one of the few situations where I would not mind a dictator put into place where such idiot actions could be crushed before they even began. However how often do you find a dictator who actually cares about his country and people instead of being a warmonger and causing global mayham.

Oh if only there was such a thing as a Divine Ruler haha, it would be so simple. Give them all the power, and let them make all the right decisions. Sadly we'll just have to hope our boats survive this storm, and wait for the sunshine of dawn. Normally I don't mind some cracking down on the internet, I understand sometimes really do take liberties way too far and assume they can just do whatever the hell they want. But this has just gone way to far, they've completely over-reacted, and people aren't going to be very happy about it.

If you can't set up an email on your own, I don't think you should have jurisdiction over the internet haha.

I might be able to accept that if Tolvo was Divine Ruler of the United states. Though I'd hate to have to go through the mandatory wrestling programme that I'm sure he'd establish.

On a more serious note this is very worrying knowing how many people support true freedom on the internet and how vehemiently SOPA and PIPA were campaigned against. Its a shame that governments would sign away the rights/ freedoms of the people without even having the decency to tell them.

While I'm of the opinion that there are something people just don't need to know, if feel this is something that we/you/ whoever is being affected by this should have been made aware of.

Lol I just repeated this whole thread in a single post. Sorry about that.

"I Tolvo shall allow everyone to get free Healthcare!"

*Crowd cheers as Tolvo gets close to the Mic and gives a death stare.*

    "You're going to need it."

*Rips off his shirt and jumps into the crowd with a group of wrestlers.*

I always say, the flame of knowledge can burn many. But, if they keep this sort of crap up they might spark a flame of disparity, draw some lords to it, and have a whole fiasco on their hands.

Just make that guy fat, give him a beard and moustache with brown hair and blue eyes, and that's what it would be like right before I dive into the crowd.

My understanding of the situation is that the internet is already monitered by several governmental agencies, they just have to jump through red tape and politics to get stuff done, but are sick of it and want to do whatever they want whenever they want in their need to "protect us" which usually comes out to protecting everyone but the public masses. I agree with you Tolvo on people getting pushed to much, I could see another American Revolution spring up if things go just the right way. It's an extreme longshot, but in this day and age nothing is truely impossible, only impractical.

My opinion summed up in a quote.

"Those who would forsake freedom for safety deserve neither"

If this trend ends in revolution i'll be first in line, I believe I have a right to my privacy and I'll fight for it.

"But the vague verbiage contained within the pages of the paper could allow Congress to circumvent existing exemptions to online privacy laws and essentially monitor, censor and stop any online communication that it considers disruptive to the government or private parties."

Isn't that violating our freedom of speech?

*Edit* To some degree, I mean there are some places where you sign away your freedom of speech.

Like when you agree to a Terms of Use like on an online forum or such.

But what if you are having a private IM chat or something on your computer, if you're trash talking the Government could they stop you?

    ^ Sure is >.<

    My analysis of the situation:
The government is a totally different class that has no idea as to what's actually going on in common life. :\
    It's sad.

I heard about this a while ago, and just... what? How incredibly stupid do you have to be to pass something like this without the knowledge of your citizens? Governments are supposed to help the people, not bend them over.
