What a relief Empty What a relief

Post by SlakeMoth Thu Apr 12, 2012 7:14 pm

I'm getting well and truly roasted over on the Dark Souls section because of some posts I made to do with possible dlc and the PC version being on GfWL. I didn't think they were that controversial but I seem to have ruffled a few feathers. Anyway I'm seeking sanctuary here for a while because it's getting a little frenetic over there.

Might give this wiki a miss for a bit . I'm getting too involved.

Let me at em slake, I don't think you've ever even approached controversy let alone start it. Anyway, you'll like it here. I'm a new addition to off topic myself but I can say its nice here. Silly. But nice. If you're in the market for just plain crazy I suggest any thread I've been involved with in the Archives.

Edit: I had to go look at what you said that caused a ruckus. How dare you suggest their world won't end because of a decision by two companies releasing a video game! The outrage slake....the outrage. On the plus side you're probably in good shape karma wise

Hopefully you didn't take my post to be 'flak' Slake, it wasn't meant to be such happy. Your opinion is highly valued here on the forum, and it would be sad to see you leave because you felt that some of our posts were hostile in nature.

On another note, there is indeed plenty of very quite topics here in the off-topic section that are very relaxed in nature, this is where I spend most of my time happy

I freely admit I had to go and find a hankie after I read this and skarekrow13's too. Thank you both for your support.

I disagree with your opinion in regards to the PC Slake, but I'm not angry at you for having them. I can't really understand why people were getting so worked up in those threads, while I'm against GfWL I don't think people should have really made it as personal as they did. It was pretty uncalled for a lot of the comments I saw.

In case you're also talking about me Tolvo, I just got mad at this "go die in a fire" guy, just because he was acting like an egotistic and agressive butthole... just want to make clear that this isn't at all about the fact that I disagree with him, because I do hate GfWL too. And I wanted to make this clear before the topic got locked (because of my post?), and try to get it on a right path again.

I wasn't talking about anyone in particular, it's best to just leave things like that in the past Darkson. Otherwise a new thread will just get locked.

I asked if you were "also talking about me", and I know that I'm most probably amongst the ones that came to your mind, so I just wanted to make clear my position (which is just what I'm doing right now also), but in no way reproach you or something.

I actually hadn't read your posts, and I don't really plan on going back to that thread. It's alright Dark, as I said it's just best left in the past. So don't worry or fret over it, I know how it is sometimes people might get worked up and react. I can understand it, it isn't the best course of action, but I would just say it's human to do sometimes. I'm not faulting anyone.

Ok. (It was just the 1 post above yours actually)

Just generally I wanna say, it's always bad to have emotions in a discussion, but keeping them out is exactly the one hardest thing most of the time, and to not get led (or driven?) by them.

When you're arguing with a person who's generally very emotional in discussions (e.g. my father), that's when it's the hardest to stay factual (right word?).

Yeah, I think you get me. happy

I'm very emotional too of course, but I don't get angry just because someone disagrees with me, but I get easily angry if someone acts... like that. Otherwise I think I can do a good job keeping my emotions inside, or not even get bothered in the first place.

Yeah, I get what you mean. Usually when a person gets emotional is when it is time to try and calm them down, or merely end the discussion. If they pursue, ignore. Though I know in real life this is a lot more difficult.

Driven would work, led can as well. Technically it would be objective not factual, but I'm pretty sure most people would get the meaning.

Lol, ok. Thanks for the info.

And yeah, the advantage of a forum is that it's easier to stay objective, but at the same time some statements can easily be misundernderstood, you know, statements where it's important how you say/mean it. That's where you need emotions, in this case emoticons.

I read through that because I was baffled that anyone would take offense to Slake. Tolvo and Darkson.....you guys are always on the side of reason too. Tolvo had an impressive comment there. Paraphrasing but....."I used...I don't like it....it would be a factor in my decisions later in life." Perfect. I was too late to the party on the original thread but glad there was a few people there playing nice.

I always forget some of you don't speak English as your native language, that's my American blood haha.

The side of reason, meaning you are using sound logic and thought to try and calm things down, prove a point, or reach an understanding. It is very much a good thing. And I think you are dandy as well Dark, which I mean in the good way not the insulting way.

Tolvo nailed it. Tolvo....what do you mean not everyone has English as a native language? What the hell.....this is Amurricuh durn it! Lol.....I'm always surprised at the fluency of a lot of members here. They make a lot of Americans look like they took English as a second language. Particularly since we use a ton of slang which isn't even universal across the country

Well most other countries learn a second language, even a third in school to a great degree. We typically take a few classes then forget them right away, because once you're in America you speak English or else. While in other countries you have people from all over using different languages and dialects, so being able to speak and write them helps out a lot. So yes, it is very impressive to us.

Think about this for a moment, they can write paragraphs in English. If I wanted to speak German.

Ich Heisse Tolvo, ich bin sehr prima. Du willst mich deine hund schlagen?

That's about all I can muster up, my name, a self compliment, then asking if someone wants me to beat their dog.

EDIT: Not to mention I totally botched the grammar, Geschlagen?

Willst du, dass ich deinen Hund schlage? That would be right.

I can tell that you just translated it freely. The grammar is completely wrong. lol

And maybe the reason you didn't understand a thing is because I used Austrian uuuuuh.... wth, what's the Englisch word for "Dialekt"? Slang, I guess? No that's not right. You guys don't have such a thing as Dialekt, as far as I know. A total variation of the main language, so to speak... :| You basically do not even write Dialekt, you just speak it. (with "you" I mean those who have a Dialekt)

F***ed up. That puts it in a nutshell. You use the f-word for everything. It's really a f***ed up word, which means it is awesome.

AND Oh well, of yourse it's "dialect". I'm such an idiot...
