    Drastic changes in character designs

Post by bloodpixel on Fri Apr 13, 2012 1:16 am

What are some moments where you were shocked at some character changes?
    Heres mine:

Reimu Hakurei, Immaterial and Missing Power
    To:
Reimu Hakurei, Touhouvania 1 and 2. (Note that touhouvania is a spin-off.)

Is there supposed to be a time difference between the two? That is a pretty big change in direction in terms of art style. They portray the character as having two very different personalities.

Can't really say I'm shocked since I never really knew them from their original forms, things have come a long way from this:
    Spoiler:

    to this:
    Spoiler:

I noted that the second picture is a spin-off of the original series. But it did surprise me when I first saw it. The original is also famous for it's hilariously crappy character artwork, and the picture you're seeing is basically another spin-off, but stays much more true to the original. I also recommend playing Touhouvania 1 and 2, if you can get past the difficulty that made me rage harder than Dark Souls.
On the side note, I can see the thanks button now!

Being a spinoff of Touhou of all things, it's unsurprising how different it is.

That and it was probably designed to mimic the style of the Castlevania's character art.

I know that it was mimicking Castlevania but it was such a sharp contrast.

Well, they're blatantly aimed at different audiences, or perhaps a different version by another studio?

It's just personal takes on the art, and if changing the art will seemingly allow something to grow better then they have license to do that.

Your images are broken for me, anyone else able to see them?

Fixed it I think. For the moment at least. Was working a moment ago. Hopefully it'll keep up.

Edit: Strange. Broke again. Clicked on one quoted and it worked fine too. Refreshed and broke.

    Links for simplicity then.

They seem to work on-and-off. They were fine, then broke, then I changed, then broke, then were fine....

Edited the other post with flat links.
