I know he does the charge move after you cut off his tail, but I'm just not sure if anyone has tried to have him break it down.

I've tried pyromancy, very hard hits, magic but nothing could break that door.

Yeah I've read people trying to hit it with items they had with no success, that's why I'm wondering maybe the boss needs to do it.

Interesting thinking, I will see I one of my characters have acces to the boss and I will try it, the key its to not summon solaire, and like you said, cut his tail to get the ring

Yeah I think trying all of his attacks in one go would be best, just remember to cut his tail off to get the ring so you don't die in the lava.
