    Pvp Parry tips Thread:

Okay guys, just a short introduction to parrying for new pvpers any posts down below are welcome, cough cough we know who we really want posting here, Tolvo winking

The problem in parrying when you are an invader is that the timings are completely different to in PVE, once used to these timings though you can easily parry any weapon.

    The Setup Parry
For the setup parry you may want to practise with a buddy at first, just RSS them into your world. For this type of parry with the majority of the weapons you will get hit with the weapon and as soon as it hits your shield then press your L2 button, this will normally parry the majority of the weapons, the only type being UGS's generally... I have found with setup parries it it rather inefficient against the Ultra Greatswords but if you wait 0.5 seconds before hitting that L2 button it tends to parry these too

    Prediction Parrying

With prediction parrying it can help to feel your opponent out... not in the gropey fashion you dirty people winking haha I tend to keep the fight going quite long with people if i am going to prediction parry because then i can memorise the general moves or attacks they will use and when, this parrying method is my favourite because more experienced players generally do not fall for the setup parry method stated above...

    Other Tips:

If you press forward as you click L2 for some unknown reason the parry tends to land more often...

A perfect place to practice this place would be a dueling group, if i could suggest the Fight Club branch for either of your systems... they have a no backstab policy therefore it gives you more opportunities to test your newfound parrying skill.

    Good Luck

If you want anyone posting in a Parry thread I think you want Vageta haha, he always has videos to go with things and better explanations than me.

9/10's out of ten, if you see a person rolling towards you, they're going to attack. This means that for certain weapons you can land and easy parry, Greatswords especially because of their animation. However always watch for weapons with a wide arc. Typically, you want to get a bit aquainted with these weapons. If they do a horizontal Arc, it's best not to try the parry. If they do a vertical one, the parry shouldn't be too difficult, spears are actually relatively easy to parry on a roll attack. So are thrusting roll attacks. But whatever you do, don't try to parry rolling 2 handed large Club attacks, large clubs of any kind have pretty much the best rolling attack in my book when they are two handed. The window is so small, and it almost always dead angles. I'll add more as people post in here, hopefully Vageta or Reim will come in here soon. big grin

You need to parry about a full half-second early. So, for most weapons, that means you need to parry before they actually initiate their swing. However, this isn't as big a problem as it seems, since most people never expect to get parried, which makes them behave predictably. In a regular invasion, once your opponent is within a certain distance of you, he will almost invariably hit R1. Once you get familiar with the timing of different weapons, you can reliably parry just by waiting until your opponent gets close enough. I always parry the first hit, instinctively, this way.

Btw, I almost always parry with my fist, so no setup-parry! That's why I have to rely on the prediction parry, or sometimes poise parry if I miss the first swipe.

I could say more, but most of what I know is in this great video:
