Has any Boss made you feel like quitting Dark Souls for good?

Post by SlakeMoth on Thu Apr 05, 2012 6:35 pm

It's happened to me a couple of times. On first playthrough I thought seriously of giving up because I couldn't face having to trawl through all those hollows yet again to get to the Belfrey Gargoyles only to be trashed. Double boss fights are my personal bete noire. I panic that's the problem and then it all goes to hell. Had the same trouble with the Maneaters in Demon Souls. If it hadn't been for a good friend on PSN, who gave me endless encouragement, I might have quit.

The second time was on my current playthrough. I was getting nowhere with the Demon Firesage until someone on the wiki suggested I use the Lifehunt Scythe. Currently the BoC is giving me grief but, as I've learned from experience, giving up is not an option.

I was originally about to quit at the Bed of Chaos. On top of how I play my character and hate destroying the properties of Izalith, it was just a ***** to fight when I wasn't patient.

If dark souls taught me one important thing as a gamer, its patience to a level that is at least a quarter of what buddhist monks feel.

Besides that, I had a pretty decent time with the game, the only other really hard part was nito, but after learning he is allergic to fire...that fight became way too easy.

I can't say I have felt like quitting entirely. But I did have to turn my xbox off for the night after numerous attempts at bed of chaos in ng+. The break did me good and managed to beat it next day.

    Pinwheel.
    I'm not even joking.
I went down there at a low level(I was saving Reah)and I only had a Astora Sword 1.
He made at least 7 clones at the half way point and incinerated me with those fireballs.
The fact that Pinwheel killed me is so depressing I didn't play for a few days...

Real boss, none. But on my first playthrough, I went to see Bishop Havel before the Taurus Demon (I knew he had the ring). That visit(s) might of caused a small amount (LOL) of nerd rage.

I think you should change the name of the topic to, "Has a boss ever made you feel, not so fresh?"

It would make the post above mine a hundred times funnier.

Haha it was the exact opposite for me on my first play through the bosses I died the most on made me want to play even more and beat them. It's funny cause most people hate bed of chaos but I've only ever died on him/her/it only twice a play through. But I have to admit, them damn Bell Gargoyles on my first play through took me 2 days to beat them.

Bed of Chaos. The fights just not interesting, lost izalith is a **** zone in general, and i didnt feel accomplished after beating it. Unlike 4 kings who i struggled and struggled against but felt awesome after beating them.

Bed of Chaos didn't quite make me want to quit, but it sure drained the life and enjoyment of the game out of me for a while. I will say it's the only boss that made me stop caring about how I tried to tackle it, because it is not a test of skill at all. I'll never forget the first run through after about 20 deaths when I realized I literally didn't care if I beat it or not, I was just curious about if it could find another stupid way to kill me differently than the prior time. I was running from the bfire to the boss about every 2 minutes, dying, shrugging, and repeating. There was nothing to learn from each death, it was just a matter of doing enough runs such that the dice eventually rolled my way. Stupid design.

I don't know about stupid design. It reminds me of the Dragon God in Demons Souls because it's all about timing your run but there's nowhere to hide from the BoC once you start. There were pillars you could hide behind with the Dragon and the eyes changing colour gave you a clue about when to move.

One thing I think we both agree on though, it's soul destroying (if you'll pardon the pun) that's for sure.

    Right now, it's 4 kings on NG+.
I always end up in 1v2 or 1v3, feels like invading the forest big grin
But when it's like this, I just go to some other area or host some pvp and I'm good to try again! Usually after a break I'm better at it

I have to disagree. The bed of chaos can be beaten with tactic. You can bock the sweeping attacks, an also, you can block first sweep attack, let the second sweep you down on ground, and you will have time to quick raise up and jump down in the middle before it starts again. That's tactic, not rolling a dice.

However, I did feel a bit like quitting dark souls with my sorcerer agains the fire sage, before I got the hang of it that I had to stay CLOSE and stay behind to win.
