Yeah, Baiulus seems to be very host friendly while most of the forum is VERY invader friendly. At the same time though, he's already posted a thread very similar to this... inciting flame wars maybe? Not even a war, really, just a lot of people disagreeing with the op.

There is really no need to use a phantom in darkroot mate. In fact the summoning phantom signal in the forest pretty much ensures you a one way ticket back to the bonfire.

Sif is an easy boss, and alot of the signs there are just to gank the hunters. If your there for a duel, make it clear you wanna duel. Otherwise head to the gate.

You know, it wouldn't be an issue if you posted and just said, "Hey I've been getting ganked a lot in the forest when I host. Now I know there are forest hunters here, so I was just wondering is this typical? Is there a way to show I'm not up to anything nasty? Because the hunters seem to treat me like one of the farmers."

Then I could explain that being near Alvina's alone is the way to go not near the stairs, and that dropping a humanity can help though isn't something you should feel forced to do, I just do that whenever I host anywhere. As well people love Cosplay, and that it can kind of tell people you're there to have fun not to gank, as well to never have a summon, or if you do just stand back far away and use Binoculars, the universal sign of, "I'm just watching." I would then tell you, despite all of these you will still find gankers just like in any other area, and that really all of the covenants have their faulty members, so that when you fight those people feel free to use any dirty trick you can think of to kill them.

But, instead you just decided to insult the Forest Hunters. That's why this place seems so invader friendly, because it is. We are friendly towards everyone except griefers, which can be hosts or invaders. We are also not all too keen on people insulting one another.

I'm "stop being cheap bastards" friendly, actually.
I do acknowledge that forest farmers are wrong on a multitude of levels, but I also do like to speak out against the invaders as well.

If it were the occasional bad egg that liked to backstab and WoG relentlessly, I wouldn't see a problem.

It's not just the occasional cheap player, but an onslaught of them.

From my experience just a few moments ago of many rounds in the forest, I found that the amount of awful invaders far outweighed the good.
And I did make a thread similar to this one a few days ago, but that one got a little bit..out of my hands.
Honestly I suppose I only made this thread out of sheer annoyed rage brought on by all the bad matches I had..

I'll probably just go back to dark Anor Londo now. The matches tended to be less frequent there for a bit (The reason I went back to the forest) but atleast they had seemingly fewer spammers/gankers. :drunken:

That's probably a timezone thing. Loath to say it, but if the name sounds like it's Japanese, chances are they'll drop you on the spot just cuz. Aggressive lot, they be if they're anything like their farmer counterparts. Ive fought along side some of them, and they're more than happy to team from what I've seen.

Perhaps it was a bit too much to give insult to everyone in the covenant; but honestly, over the past few days, what I described WAS everyone I faced in the covenant.

Though I do thank you for those tips. I may utilize them the next time I decide to go back.

Just try not to post when you're angry, it can cause you to get other people angry and it becomes a whole mess. I understand the frustration of hosting sometimes, I actually hosted Forest of the damned, so I never was in my world without 3 phantoms at a time as I gravelorded. That is another possible way to increase chances of friendlies, invaders often love Gravelords, some actually stick around to guard them. I wouldn't right away assume an invader is friendly just because you are GL'ing though, but sometimes you'll get eyes of death and people who want to duel with you or just jump off the cliff to give you souls.

It is a trend I've noticed Tolvo. Many times I'll be fighting, when a hunter comes up with a Japanese name or a name in full caps and they will wreck the host without second thought. Same as the gankers with similar naming conventions. They'll wreck you, then taunt.

Who knows what started it, but I believe the occurrence is a real life example of the trope 'he who fights monsters'

Wow, I need to lay off tvtropes for a while.

To the OP: Your wording was a bit harsh.

To be fair to you though: I've tried to host in the forest quite a few times and I make it VERY clear I'm there to duel. The couple times I've summoned ONE phantom, I stay back and let them duel without healing him. I always bow, unless they're sprinting at me full-force.

I have seen ONE forest hunter who dueled me without ganking/bs fishing/or "well what is it" gesturing at the end. I don't include spell spamming 'cause I don't mind it that much.

Cloud, I think it's just a case of, there are more japanese players, so by logic there are more jerks who are Japanse, just because there's more of them. If there were more American players, I'd tell people to "Be Careful when you see American names."

And that ONE player I met in the Forest who played fair was Japanese. I wanted to message him and discovered that.

Oh man, I hate when that happens! Then I sit there and ask them, do you understand any English? And feel like such a **** like, "Oh yeah, I'm asking you to understand my language, but I'll never try to learn yours."

I notice more of the nice Japanese players in the Painted World typically, duelling in the big arena before Priscilla.

True true. I digress, there will always be few honorable players. And there will also be few complete monsters who fight what they've become. The rest are in between on some scale. I do like to think I'm somewhere near the honorable side, though I won't hesitate to rush someone who is summoning.

That's why I usually message people afterwards, and even offer to invade as a DW and protect them from other phantoms if they are going for the boss. I'm a monster fighter, and a duellist. I'm not actually there to fight people going for Sif or new players, I'm only there for Justice, and a side of Spaghetti.

Why shouldn't I, as a forest host, summon a phantom? I have the right to summon help for any boss I feel like and Sif is no exception. So when you decide to hang in front of the boss gate to fight me, dont send hatemail when my phantom rushes you and while I snipe you with my BBOF +15. Im not here to duel, Im here to fight the boss. So buck off, go buck yourself and have a **** day. (This happened yesterday)

Both forest invaders and forest hunters have a crappy code of conduct.

Whilst I'm not going to nail this thread for breaking the code of conduct YET, I would urge you all to be careful about making generalisations based on race or ethnicity. This is against our rules and will earn you a hefty beatdown from the mods. Ye be warned.

The main reason you find a lot of forest hunters that swing first and ask questions later is due to the ganking they endure on a regular basis. Most start out being "honorable" and then quickly find out that it gets them killed more often than not. If you invade the forest long enough you tend to get a bit cold hearted due to the cheapness you are subjected to. There are times I invade a seemingly solo person, only to get backstabbed by the phantom hiding behind the wall I hadn't noticed.

Keep in mind the majority of forest hunters aren't your typical ganker/griefers. Forest hunters are almost always outnumbered and fighting unfavorable odds. This is why we do it, for the challenge, something people with the ganker mindset don't enjoy. Gankers don't invade in an almost certain 2 or 3vs1 situation as it completely goes against the very core of their playstyle. They want to be the ones with an advantage so they stay in the forest as either a host or dropping their signs.

Watch my forest hunter video and see how many of the invasions I do are people trying to fight me "fairly". They jump on you at your spawn point, one of them is constantly trying to get behind you for a quick backstab and all of them will chug estus while their phantoms are getting beat down. Forest hunters can't heal their comrades nor jump the host at a spawn point.
