A few questioons about my character, weapons and armor...

Post by Tokidd on Mon Apr 02, 2012 11:31 pm

Hello and thank-you to anyone reading this post for taking the time.

I'm not exactly a newbie to Dark Souls, but I'm certainly not a veteran. I'm a level 62 warrior who has just arrived in Anor Londo and is now wandering about the Painted World collecting goodies, leveling up, and getting his *** kicked.

But I had some questions about where I should take my character from here and which weapons I might want to invest in.

As a warrior, I've pumped almost all of my XP into vitality, endurance, strength, and dexterity. I've also got two attunement slots, and upped my faith to 14 so I could wield the Astoria Straight Sword.

My Drake's Sword is at +4, and Astoria +3, but I mainly using the lightning spear at +3 which does almost 400 points of damage.

I've saved the sould of Quelaag with the hope of making the Quelaag fury sword. What do you guys think of this weapon?

Also, is it worth it for me to continue upgrading the Astoria Straight Sword? What is the best direction to take it in for a warrior? Obviously I'm just looking for maximum physical damage.

I don't like greatswords or axes. Considering that, which blade has the most potential?

Also, as far as armor, I've upgraded the Elite Knight set to +5, but am not sure I want to invest any more in this set. I have the Black Iron armor, but not enough endurance to wear it without it slowing me down even with Havel's ring. Approximately what endurance # do you need to wear this armor and retain your ease of movement?

Which set of armo should I take the time to invest in as a warrior character?

Thank-you you who to everyone who takes the time to reas my post and answer my questions.

    peace

Black Iron & Giants are both good high physical armors. You also don't need to wear every piece in order for it to be effective. If you're looking for a high strength build you probably shouldn't invest much into Astoria Straight Sword & Quelaag fury sword. Also any of the other spear types would be more useful than a lightning spear if you're willing to upgrade them. Spears have the shortest range & weakest attack out of all the spears. Since you don't like Greatswords or Axes you probably won't like hammer type weapons I'm assuming which is a shame really since you're limiting damage potential with a high strength build.

Since it seems like you like faster swinging weapons mite want to try upgrading a Partizan(longer reach than a spear plus better move set) or Winged Spear(Longer Reach & more damage than a spear) for a spear type weapon. Great Scythe is also a viable option for Halberds.

If you're willing to use hammers Mace, Pikeaxe, as well as any of the great hammers will do good damage.

Other weapons you should consider as a STRENGTH BUILD are Man-Serpent Greatsword(Greatsword) Demon Great Machete(Ultra Greatsword), Butcher Knife(Axe), Demon's Greataxe(Great Axe), & Black Knight Greataxe (Great Axe).

Note that you do have to invest in the weapons before they'll become highly effective.

    Thanks for the reply.

You're right that I prefer faster swinging weapons because, although the do not hit has hard as hmmers and greatswords, they leave you less vulnerable, and you can get in more shots, which I think adds up to more damage cumulatively.

I do have a Black Knight Sword and a few weapons that require massive strength upgrades to wield, but any good one-handed weapon that hits pretty hard and swings fast is my preference.
I've invested in the lightening spear over the others you mentioned because of the high rate of return you get from just a little upgrading - +3, and I'm already doing 400+ damage. Same with Astora's sword. At +3 it's almost as strong as my Drake sword, but the Drake Sword cannot be upgraded past +5, while you can continue with Astora's sword.

Any more feedback would be great.

the fury sword is a great weapon but more suited if your going to pump dex plus try to always have at least 10 humanity in your counter to get the extra damage points. If you like fast swinging weapons than I'd recommend the long sword or the dark sword but you're limited yourself if you want to invest in Strength. I'd use a claymore or manserpent sword both have good 2handed R1 swings and R2 on claymore is quite useful too. But if you truely like fast weapons I'd suggest the katanas or a falchion. I don't have much experience with spears so I can't really help there but the Dragon Slayer spear is quite good if you are going to pump faith

Great swords like the Gravelord Sword do a lot of damage and are useful against slower enemies but I use my Fire Uchi+10 a lot because it's fast and sometimes you need to be quick. At the end of the day it's all about your preferred play style. Bows are indispensable for ranged attacks and can save you a lot of grief because fighting some enemies toe to toe is a quick way to die.

Katanas are better suited for dex builds. Also a little farming goes a long way in making weapons that will benefit you in the long run. This is the main reason why I think any type of investment in the lightning spear is a waste. Chunks are allot harder to get when compared to shards.
