I dont understand why ppl think Painted World is so awesome. Theres nothing special, buti its not bad really, nothing compared to *** Duke's Archives. More like Devil's Archives...

the level design is awesome and theres a lot of goodies and some cool weapons there. the duke's really easy with pyromacy and i find it really boring in terms of its design.

I was into the feeling of being trapped actually. No matter where else I had wandered there was always the option to retreat. Painted world took that away. Also for me I rely on bows for PvE and went into the painting with only around 200 arrows I think. After several harpy deaths I saw I was getting lower with no merchant in sight. Then its capped off by the sweetest lady outside of albino spiderville as a boss. Everyone has their places and people that define the magic of the game and this is one my all time favorites

Arrows are good for picking off the Phalanx like enemies, just run in to the area to get their attention and then stand at the first lot of steps from the bonfire and fire away. Poison Cloud is good too but you have to get close to cast it and you risk getting spiked. A bow is a must for taking out the blob headed hollows too.

There's some good stuff to pickup in this area, including an ember in the annex and the Lifehunt Scythe is a great weapon. I was getting well and truly trounced by the Demon Firesage in the Demon Ruins until someone on this wiki suggested it (thank you, sorry I can't remember your moniker but it's one of the best tips I've ever received). Anyway the Scythe made mincemeat of him, even though it was just the basic weapon, not upgraded at all, so it's worth getting it just for that fight and let's not forget his brother when you return to the Undead Asylum. The reward for offing him is a titanite slab!

The phalanx is pretty weak to fire damage, too. Like if you go near, behind those giant cubes, and cast firestorm or fire tempest a couple of times... a lot of souls in few seconds cheers

Edit: In Demon bombs were great with the Phalanx, so I'm guessing this is the case too, just drop a couple in their middle!

(I LOVE the painted world more and more! In NG I just cleared the area of items and went for Priscilla, in NG+ I just spend so much fun time in there, also I get PvP and summons a lot. I'm level 150 and I get summoned by people in NG, NG+ and NG++)

As much as I would like both Her dagger and the Lifehunt Scythe, I just can't bring myself to kill Priscilla. Other than that, I found the Painted World to be adequately frustrating and interesting. Though few opportunities for multiplayer, considering my preferred SL of 25-35.

In my second painted world run in NG+ I wanted to up my status in Darkmoon. The Lifehunt turns harpies from pains to ribbons. Two hits with +5 and.......well nothing really. Fight's over.

They should have put some dragons flying through the clouds and more areas to explore, that would be awesome

Actually if you tilt your camera up you can lob poison clouds from a greater distance onto the phalanx. Try it while standing on the other side of the big cube blocks + silver covetous for additional good times.
