On shields and armor, you see all kinds of resistance against fire, magic, lightning, and physical. But there's never a reference to the type of damage that Faith represents. Is it considered magic, for the purpose of calculating resistance?

it considered magic but i think that faith increases the lightning damage on dragon slayer spear

Faith is needed to be able to cast miracle and spell if you got the darkmoon catalyst and make them stronger.It's also used for divine and occult weapon scalling,so it don't increase Mdef.

havels blocks wrath of god, it barely does any damage and doesn't even break through the shield. might be same for other shields, sure ive seen it. but depending on magic resistance itll do less damage.

I'm pretty sure Faith is magic based. So, unless the other player has magic resistance on their shield, you should be able to damage them even when they block.
