I'd like to start pvping, but i've got a few questions first.

Post by Karn on Mon Apr 02, 2012 12:35 pm

    Lets jump right in,

45 Dex is the cap for the casting speed increases, is the difference between 40-45 negligible?

I've never played faith build and was shooting for a DMB/Sunlight build. Stats look a bit like:

    40
    14
    30
    16
    40
    11
    8
    43

I want more End, but would it be ok to cap Faith at 30-33? Would the damage from SLB/DMB be good with the canvas talisman?

I've rarely pvp'd, but my PvE build is parry/BS whenever I can. Are there any differences in the way of BSing/Riposting players to PvE, or is it the same principal?

Thanks everyone, really sorry for all the questions.

Or would 33 Vit - for 50 Fth be okay? The high faith could work well with occult/Divine weapons.

    I like to dodge. Alot.

go with 30 faith, either 30 or 50 no inbetween. 50 faith doesnt really give you tha much more power, its better to keep it at 30 and put those points into something more useful.

you're gonna have a hard timing going from parrying in pve to pvp, the reason is lag, theres a lot of videos on youtube about it, you probablly should look into it. everyone backstabs in pvp, most people will just fish for backstabs, it's really rare to sind someone that doesnt use cheap tactics to win but when you do it can be a lot of fun. try thr painted world and the burg, i always get lagstabbers in the burg though, painted world can be fun sometimes, people bring really intersting builds there but whatever you do dont go to the forest unless you wanna get ganbaged.

I'm not gonna get into stats since I Forest Hunt for farmers with my one and only character and am not capping. Regarding the parry/riposte and backstab mechanics in PvP compared to PvE........you'll need to make some adjustments but it's the same concept. The biggest problem parrying (besides lag) is that actual players can be less predictable. Also, if you miss one the player might switch tactics. You'll also need to know movesets for a larger field of weapons.

I'll be sure to do some research on youtube then, Thanks for the information

Alas, that still leaves my first question unanswered about casting speeds, is there a huge difference between 40-45? Or is 40 just as good?

This will show you exactly the difference in casting speed. It is an awesome video.

Oh wow that is awesome. Thanks a ton for the information folks =]

    So,

    36 vit
    16 att
    40 end
    16 str
    45 dex
    *
    *
    30 faith

Cleric/Bandit optimal for SL 120 and these stats.Wanderer could go 120 with 10 str for Balder Side sword, would mean higher vit.

At sl 120 elementals outdamage most occult if not all. You only care about ocult/divine/magic if you are going up a lot more in sl.

One more question, do I have to be a part of the Gravelord Covenant to make use of the Gravelord Greatsword Dance?

You shouldnt regret it. The largest gains in the AR of slb and dmb come from 40-50 faith. Theres no hard rule that you shouldnt go in between 30 and 50 faith. In fact i use 48 faith on alot of my faith builds because the only reason to go to 50 is to get an extra 5 maj adjust, and to be able to cas sunlight spear(which is pretty much useless in pvp, takes a long time to cast, and takes up two slots.)

What's wrong with 40 Faith? At 40 faith you start using darkmoon talisman. 40 is also a decent number to have on faith scaling weapons.

PS: Occult does bonus damage to living enemies(like when you're invading people) while Divine does bonus damage to undead(like when people invade you).

    30 faith + canvas talisman = 172 magic adjust
    40 faith + darkmoon talisman = 191 magic adjust

assuming you're using sunlight blade, that's 309 damage compared to 343. so you get 34 extra damage for 10 points. Make of that what you will.

You act as if the only thing faith is used for is sunlight blade. Other spells can benefit allot more from 191 MA given the proper equipment setup.

Bah, now i'm confused again =/

Would 10 points be worth 34 for SLB or 40 damage for DMB? To me that's 40 dex from 45, and 33 vit from 35 vit or giving up an attunement slot.

Anyways, is it worth it to join the DMB on playthrough 1, get the DMB spell, abandon covenant, then kill Gwyndolin for SLB so I could have two DMB casts and 1 SLB on the 2nd playthrough?

I'm pretty sure Covenant based spells you can only get one casting of. So I believe you can't get a second DMB, however if you do kill Dolin multiple times, you can get multiple SLB's.

DMB is stronger than SLB. So, if you want both, you have to get SLB first, then DMB on NG+.

I would stay at 34 Faith, unless you need to put points somewhere. But, usually, if you have a Faith of 30+, you don't have very many extra points, especially if you are a dex build. I've tried putting stats into faith, and I barely noticed a difference until 50. Between 30 and 50, it isn't worth the extra stats (again, especially with a dex build).

There was a Armor calculator out there that was pretty nifty, you checked what you wanted, Poise/Bleed resist or what not and it would show you your best equipment with those resists while sticking to desired weight. Does anyone know what i'm talking about and can provide a link to it? I can't find it anywhere.

    Level 85,

    30 vit
    12 att
    30 end
    16 str
    30 dex
    *
    *
    30 faith

So far still in NG, farming slabs and humanity right now. Haven't pvped since I got SLB.

+15 Uchigatana + SLB has 678 AR right now, +14 Great Scythe has 720 AR. Seems pretty good.

So far I have +15 Balder Side Sword + Uchigatana, and a myriad of other weapons at +14; Flamberge, Claymore, Iaito, Zwei, Great Scythe, Claw, and a Painting Guardian sword.

Where would be a good place to start my PvP training? Currently the only covenant left open for invading purposes is the Forest Covenant, but I do have 99 Red Eye Orbs.

Armor wise I realize that Giants is frowned upon (Been using it for pve though) Any suggestions there? I'm sure I should be looking for poise, but how much of it? I think I've got one of almost every armor set, Excluding Great Lords and Smoughs, I'll have those next playthrough.

Reim that is the calc I was looking for! Thanks a ton, for some odd reason it doesn't appear to be working correctly for me, listing 100% burden at 30 endurance at 52.5 =/

Was contemplating going 28 strength for the use of the Curved Greatswords, Murakumo mainly. Since with my current stats I won't really benefit from the Greatswords, other than the Flamberge.

After I feel comfortable with my stats I might try throwing in a Power Within, or can that not be used while SLB/DMB are in effect?
