I first heard of Dark Souls when one of my friends told me about it. I checked out several reviews and it seems like my type of game. Unfortunately, I do not own a PS3 or X-Box myself, but I do hope to get one or the other within the next month or so. So just for fun, I'm gonna ask a question: What class do you think is the best and why? This is to help me choose a class once I actually get the game. Thank you in advance

Re: New Player
there is nothing as the best class, since any class can by time envolve to anything. However the pyromancer is a quite good starting class since you will get to start with fire orbs, wich is alot of help with bosses, the sorcerer is also good but has lower health. that's my opinion.

Re: New Player
If I'm not mistaken the Wanderer and Pyromancer start with the highest number of points for their beginning sl (3 and 1 respectively) though this only matters if you are super antsy about spending the most points available to you.
The classes actually have no bearing on how you play the game. A knight can become a beastly mage character in the end and be super powerful with spells. A low faith wanderer can become a lightning throwing giant weapon user.
The great thing about Dark Souls is that From lets you play the way you want to play and doesn't penalise you for it.

Re: New Player
However, as a first time play through, I would NOT recommend the following:
-Knight (Too much of a crutch, slow, and armor doesn't help as much as you would think)
-Deprived (No armor, just a club and crap shield, very hard early game if you are starting out.)
-Theif (Too squishy and relies on criticals (Riposte and Backstabs)
My recommendation would have to be the Bandit or Warrior, they are highly versatile and deal good damage early on.
PS- Don't play Human until you are past the Gargoyles. And Don't play human in the Forest.

Re: New Player
Yarxov basically just said everything I would have said, though I think pyromancer is also a good starting class, but really the starting class hardly matters. Just get an idea of what weapons you want to use and then choose whichever class seems like they have the best set up to use those weapons.

Re: New Player
Pyro is risky, if you run out of Casts you are done for. And it is too much of a crutch, you rely on the pyro too much and later when it isn't affective you're stuck.

Re: New Player
As others have said you cant go wrong really - I am playing the game for the first time myself as a Pyro as i liked the idea of having some magic backup from the start but really it is not really required.
If i could choose again (i aint restarting now until i finish) i would choose cleric as they start off with a heal spell which is nice as some out of combat health.

Re: New Player
Two things for you dude:
First off, I recommend NOT picking the Master Key as your starting gift. In fact I recommend that you never touch it until you're done with your first playthrough.
Second, we made this page for people like you and I hope it helps out a bit.

Re: New Player
Actually Yarxov, the knight is one of the best starting classes for newbies. It starts with WoW covenant to see more summon signs, it has enough poise to not get staggered by the hollows, as a newbie would know much about evading, and start with enough Str and Dex to choose a variety of weapons. Also it starts with the highest vitality, and the knight armor has the highest defense.

Re: New Player
There really is no bad class to start as. I really enjoy starting as the sorcerer and the pyromancer. The spells really help early on in the game, but there's not so much into the int stat that you can't become a pure melee character later.

Re: New Player
For new players? Probably the Knight, it allows for the most error really. It's harder to dodge, but new players tend to block more and the knight starts with the best mitigation armor for standard damage types.
My personal choice though would be the thief, because of the Master Key. Then you can pick any other gift to go with it.
It all really depends on your playstyle? What are you looking to do in combat?
Also, welcome to the forums!

Re: New Player
I didn't like the Knight class, it was my Worst character to date, I guess I'm just more of an agility person. It's all up to preference.
Also, the bandit has high Str and Vit, deals good damage and allows for mobility, best of both worlds imo.
