A few pvp videos Empty A few pvp videos

    Post by vageta31 Wed Mar 28, 2012 5:56 pm

So I've posted my sl 5 naked run and my ongoing sl 3 sorcerer run in the main forum but I thought I'd link my pvp videos here.

First is my level 120 dex/int forest hunter build.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kx2pMxNF-dE

This is another forest hunter video, but for fun I basically made a noob clone and spammed twop and wog to go against my ganker twins. Not an elegant video to watch, but fun for the right reasons.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPMbud90w7w

This is a low to mid level pvp montage. There are some depths/blighttown footage when I'm level 15 and end up at level 60 near the end. It's actually the same character I use for my 120 build.

I hear you. It's not as if my intentions were to ruin a new players day, it's just that when invading at that level range you're bound to come across new players. At least with me they never got taunted or recieved "you suck noob" messages. I'd never invaded in blighttown or the depths so I decided on that character I'd pvp at all levels on my way up to 120 instead of waiting. As you saw I also ran into some higher level players that should have been way out of my league, but I still held my own.

yeah, i have an sl 30 in the depths that only get invaded there but it got boring after a couple of days, its better to ignore the trolls, they'll go away soon enough.

Yeah the forest hunting is good stuff. You seem able to get out of potential backstabs that always give me a hard time, namely when the guy is running around you but still at 11 o'clock and then somehow just teleports behind you, heh. Also I always leave darkwraiths in the forest alone unless they are obviously farming (which thankfully I haven't seen yet).

3rd vid didn't do much for me, but it was nice of you to let (?) that fatrolling noob in chainmail hit you with his claymore heh.

The reason I am escaping backstabs is because I'm countering their attempt and turning it into my own. Most of my backstabs that aren't actually punishments for healing are me just taking advantage of their obvious attempt to strafe me. The trick is simply recognize when their character starts to strafe. If you're on the defensive and moving backwards it is very difficult for them to actually get behind you. All you have to do is wait for them to get in range and then flick the controller left or right(depending on what way they're coming from) and you will pop behind them. Their targeting gets confused because it expects them to be behind you so it's like their circling a ghost, except that now you're behind them. Hope that made sense..

This is a lot of the reason you hear people talking about "lagstabs". What alot of the lagstab complainers don't mention is that they were actually attempting to backstab their opponent and then right when they hit the button thinking they've done it, the opponent warps behind them instead. They don't seem to realize that on the other guys screen there was no warping at all. In fact if you pay really close attention on the videos you can actually see it happen. I step behind them while they still seem to be locked on where I was just a second before then.

I've gotten a few hate mails accusing me of being a hacker and purposely causing lag due the counter backstabbing I do.

Thanks. Yeah I understand the counter bs concept and have done that myself. I was thinking more of the instances fairly early in your first video where you roll away or escape when someone closes while strafing, rather than counter-bs. Even when I roll away I often teleport backwards into a bs anyway in those situations. I guess my timing is off or something but it remains my primary point of frustration where a match seems lag free and then my opponent lands one of those even though I've (on my screen I guess) already anticipated it and rolled away.

For example, the first video at 0:27 and again at 1:18 I totally would have eaten backstabs there big grin . I also absolutely love your triple bs starting around 1:30, I meant to mention that earlier.

Still trying to figure out myself how to go about getting my own capturing equipment to make some videos. I've read a dozen guides that all list a bunch of products and cables that would make sense to most people, but quite frankly I have no idea how it all works haha

It's not too difficult, you mostly need a capture device(usually a card) and usually some sort of splitter depending on what method you're using. You hook your console directly to the computer to capture, but the output on your computer screen is delayed to the point of making it unplayable. The typical answer is to get a splitter so you can still have a live video feed to your TV while you're capturing. The other option is a capture device that has a built in output(aka passthrough) that lets you also see the live feed without a splitter.

I use a Hauppauge Colossus that has a built in component passthrough so I don't need a splitter cable. It also has hardware encoding built in so I don't have to rely on my pc itself to work very hard. I've never once dropped any frames in all the hours I've captured video. Cost me about 130$ and it's the only thing I had to buy. It comes with basic software for capturing and editing though if you want to get fancier there are a ton of other software options.

I've done a lot of tweaking but my last 2 video on my sl 3 sorcerer playthrough are easily the highest visual quality I've managed. If you watch it in 1080p on youtube it looks very sharp and similar to the actual game.

I understand what you're saying now, but it could just be that I escaped a few frames ahead of the backstab, they didn't go for it or just a bit of luck. I know what you mean and I've been caught by that numerous times, which is why I really like the faster weapons as you can recover and roll out before they can get close enough. With a slower weapon I'd liking have eaten a backstab.

And yeah, I've rather proud of that triple backstab. Lining up behind someone who's in the backstab animation is a bit risky if you don't time your attack correctly as they found out the hard way.

Yeah I've long suspected roll bs behind someone who was waiting to backstab you was possible but haven't pulled it off myself. To see it twice in a row was freakin' great. Did you somehow angle your roll slightly so you slide around their char model rather than just roll against them? I've recently taken to instead partially rotating and doing a target shield parry to pick up a riposte -- it is not at all easy particularly if your bs victim also gets back to their feet and comes after you from behind, but doing it just once can change the mood of an entire battle. The roll seems like a better idea because I guess even if you miss you have a good chance of getting loose from the situation.

Yes I do angle it just a bit but only slightly. I do the same after I get backstabbed and they are attempting to chain backstab me.
