Wolf ring. On a toon with 0 poise, this means 40 poise total.

Well you certainly won't get stunlocked by faster weapons.

it depends, if you have low vit then yea use it but you still need to be able to switch weapons in stun mode in order to escape. if you have high vit I would not use it.

Just 40 poise? Not really worth it other than preventing stunlock from small weapons. BUT, if you just add something like Black Armor gauntlets/leggings or Giant's gauntlets/leggings, you will have over 58-61 poise, which will be enough to avoid stunlock from any weapon other than ultra greatswords. That is the value of it, IMO.

Well as I'm fighting with a Lifehunt Scythe I wondered if I needed some poise, the swings left me too open.

I equip the DWGR and Bloodbite Ring for my Lifehunt Scythe. But, you can equip Havel's gauntlets and leggings for 56 poise, which is a cutoff point for Clays and below.

I'm with Reim all the way here.

The Wolf's ring, by itself, isn't really worth much. I like to use it along with armor that will give me 36 poise, which will get me up to 76. If you're weight conscious and don't care for looks, you can get 36 poise with Havel's [legs or gloves, either one] and the Gargoyle helm. That'll get you 76 poise for only 15 weight...

But, the DWGR can pretty much always get you more poise.

The only reason to ever use the Wolf's ring rather than DWGR is if you plan on being under 25% weight, or you just don't want to use the DWGR out of some kind of misplaced disdain for it... Like me!

Well if you're using the dragon torso then yes, 40 poise is better than no poise! You could also consider the temporary poise buff from Havel's shield's special ability.

And if you want to get some poise while cosplaying as priscilla, the wolf's ring would probably be your best bet again, for reasons of looks. It'd be easier to wear the wolf's ring and sneak on some gloves that have some poise, than sticking on Havel's gauntlets and leggings and expecting people to think you're priscilla!

Love the cosplay in your avatar, btw!

For melee there are 4 major Poise breakpoints.

    76 poise (51 for 1-handed resists):
    All Ultra Greatswords 2h R1s
    All Great Axes 2h R1s
    All Great Blunt 2h R1s

    53 poise (36 for 1-handed resists):
All Great Asian Swords 2h R1s
    All Great Swords 2h R1s
    All 1-handed Blunts 2h R1s
    All 1-handed Axes 2h R1s

    31 poise (21 for 1-handed resists):
All Asian Sword 2h R1s (and R2 in the case of Shotel)
    All 1-handed Sword 2h R1s
All Katana 2h R1s (including Washing Pole)
    All Great Scythe 2h R1/R2s
    All Whip 2h R1s
    All Large Spear (Partisan/Pike) 2h R1s
All Small Spear (Silver Spear/Winged Spear) 2h R1s
All Halberd/Pole 2h R1s (figured this would have been 53, but it wasn't).

8 poise (6 poise for 1-hand resists, or Fist Weapons):
    All Rapier 2h R1s
    All Dagger 2h R1s
All Fist Weapons R1s (although this is actually 6 since you can't 2-hand a Fist Weapon)

    Copy/pasted from a gamefaq post

....the ring alone can be a lifesaver. It is a necessity on my Dragon form. And I use it on a number of other build to hit the magical 53, (covers everything one handed and virtually everything 2 handed, other than big things you should never let hit you anyway. :p ).

I loathe the DGWR, (looks SOOOOO stupid, lol), and only use it on one build. A ninja, (go figure silly )

By the way, just a little thing. Full Eastern Set with the Wolf's Ring will land you at exactly 76 Poise, a very fine set of Armor indeed. big grin

Yeah, some medium sets are very good with the Wolf Ring. Black Knight set gives you 90 poise.

If you aren't using the DWGR it is the most useful ring I believe, because while with 25% burden or less, or DWGR, dodging ultra greatswords is pretty easy, but for medium sets it is a must have if you are medium rolling. Though with some you can pop on a havel's ring and fast roll.

okay, I have discovered something the other day, A two handed Moonlight Greatsword is what you would call an outlier, The reason it is an outlier is that when you have the specific 53/54 poise for your not getting stunned by Greatswords... Whereas at 58 poise it doesnt stun you, this means that the poise break point for the Moonlight Greatsword is somewhere between 55-58. I request people to attempt some tests on this please... thank you

I know for a fact that you need more than 56 poise to resist stagger from 2h MLGS. I'll try to find a way to increase my poise by one and then I'll get hit by an mlgs to test that. Probably your best bet to go with 58 for the time being though. I've never fought someone using the mura, but it also seems to be an outlier. No solid evidence of that though.

EDIT: This be false, you need 56 poise to resist stagger from the Moonlight Greatsword when it's 2H. I guess my poise hadn't fully regenerated when I tested the first time.

If you're ever fighting a Bonewheel shield, it takes 33 poise per hit when one handing, so you need 97 poise to resist all 3 blows from the spin.
Two handed, I can't resist it with anything short of 100.
