    Dragon/Rock Build

Post by Dameira on Thu Mar 22, 2012 10:02 am

Hello, I'm wondering how people feel about this build I've been having fun with recently.

    SL 125
    Starting Class: Bandit

    Vit: 70
    End: 40
    Str: 50
    Dex: 10

    (Everything else base)

    RH1: Dragon Greatsword
RH2: Dragon King Greataxe (Swap to Great Club+15 sometimes)

    LH1: Havel's Greatshield
    LH2: Grass Crest Shield

    Armor: Full Havel's
    Rings: RoFaP, Havel's Ring

Always have repair powder ready for a lull in combat.

It's a very simple build, though pretty fun. Basically, I stand behind my shield, back to the wall to prevent backstabs as I refuse to roll. I like to test my opponent and see what their tactics are.

I almost never play the aggressor. I like to force my opponent to become frustrated, either attempting dead angles or magic spamming. That is when I punish. I love having the grass crest shield for a quick swap as it provides stamina regen when the opponent backs off, but more importantly it can give me a surprise parry when they want to start swinging wildly into my shield.

The most important part of the build is the dragon weapons though. The two-hand R2 attacks have caught countless people in surprise with either a chain shockwave from the greatsword or a killing blow from a quick-swapped DKGA shockwave.

I'm a very patient player and I think it is a must to play like this as even though you cannot be stun-locked unless careless you may still be punished with backstabs without perfect positioning. I will draw fights out as long as I can to get the advantage, most of my duels take 10+ minutes unless chain backstabbed. (Which is a pretty good way to counter something like this)

My friends call me a coward and just annoying to PvP against so I think I'm doing something right. I would like to know what other pvpers think about a tanky build like this.

well, i like unique builds. and the way your stats are spread out i haven't heard or seen much of that. so well done.

the 'turtling' aspect though for PVP does make it dull in all honesty. Mabye for PVE that would be cool. But having to PVP that would be annoying.

That being said. I would love to try. Are you on PS3?

one of the things i hate the most in this you is turtles and im gonna go with fighting you would be boring, i would just throw dung pies at you and when you try to use moss or heal i would just bs you and end the fight.

Yeah I'm on PSN. My turtling is in response to having virtually no success against people who backstab me into oblivion. I still have not got used to countering that tactic other than stand tall with my back to the wall.

As for dung pie tossing, that is usually a sign, and when that happens I always find myself a narrow corridor so that it is futile to try and get around me. Boring to my enemy, entertaining to me. Not everyone can be happy.

    Wait, are you idiot ?

I'm really wondering cause the shield have a special ability that can prevent from stunlock, it would be... idiot not to use it.

Ah and turtling is really, really, really cheap and it won't save you against experienced players anyway, as soon as you'll start to swing your big slow weapon, they'll parry you or simply dodge.

Oh I didn't mention using the special ability but of course it is used. The buff lasts 40 seconds and can be used once per shield, with no other active buffs on you at the time of use. Generally I save it for when I smell the kill.

Also, yes. Dodging and parrying will happen, not all builds are perfect. I like this build as it's not the standard clone giant armor/mask build everyone and their mother is running around using. I'm fine with losing to more skilled players, it's how I learn their tactics and make myself better.

i honestly do not know what the issue is with turtling is, i dont personally use that strategy but i dont mind fighting it either. your build is a tank and seeing as you cant ninja flip around i dont blame you for backing into a corner, although im sure a lot of people do just get in and backstab you. do you even have fat roll or is your equip burden so high you cant even roll?

i would not use this build but i dont think its cheap or anything. i agree with rant that i would most likely try to inflict you with toxin or bleed you out with pricillas dagger. only problem i would have with this build is if you healed. if you are considering it a duel then dont heal.

all your weight is from your weapons and shield... i bet you've got medium roll as dragons have no armor.... looks interesting but why not experiment with the dragond bodies bare handed attack, much faster than all the weapons you listed above with comparable damage. oh derp... your build title said dragon and immediatley assumed dragon body as well as dragon weapons.... still though as an alternate style try the dragon body with your current weapon set up, it might actuallly allow for dwgr and give you a secondary fast attack. as well as the roar buff and firebreath.

I can fat roll, though it usually lands me in more trouble than not. I do not heal unless my opponent heals first, at which case it's fair game in my eyes. I invade mainly through the Dragon Eye, so I consider all of my fights to be duels.

Oh and it's tough farming them dragon scales. haha

yea dragon bro duels are good cause you are matched up by level unlike using red soap stone or invading. i see this build as perfectly fair especially if your not just camping as a host and using your poise to flask chug. i like when people opt for something different instead of the giants+dwgr combo.

Lol guys I think its fine since he does not use Dark wood grain ring and actually, he is a tank, not a turtle. Turtle is when he uses a Spear or a Rapier to poke with the shield up

I think its ok considering a skilled player can beat you with strategies such as parrying rolling and stuff

But I also recomend you using the dragon torso stone. Its fantastic, just try to roll more

*edited to not sound like an ***. Long story short, Turtles and not fun to fight.

    /rant

As far as the stats go, 70 Vit is a bit high. Especially given your build and shield. Maybe consider dropping that a little and increasing Att to allow for some Pyros. Iron Flesh would fit your build. Great Combustion would be a big surprise to people, given your slow movements into a fast pyro. Fire Surge too. With that much poise, consider fire tempest. If you put all those in, you can drop Vit to 64, inc Att to 14. That will decrease your vit by only 63 (which is minimal).
