I killed him yesterday on a speedrun like in seconds, lemme tell you the trick.

I will tell you what armor I had on first:

    Black Iron chest
    Giant gloves
    Giant leggings
    (what I always use)

You can use any high defense high poise armor you want.

Get a parry knife or a shield also, whichever you parry the best with, I recommend
parry knife it's what I use.

Let gwyn come at you and just start parrying/riposte, I killed him in seconds using only a
bk knife with no hornets, so if you can wear hornets and buff your weapon, you should
kill him almost in no time.

Iff you buff of course do not buff with fire resin winking

What SL are you? I have spare parry knife on all my toons and if you are online we can practice so you kick his butt fast...

If you prefer getting it yourself it is at the end of a ledge in new londo ruins I believe:

Here is a nice video that slows down most of his swings to let you see when best to parry him

This one shows you staying in close (avoiding grip) and getting gywn to swing at you so you can parry

    *parry*
    *riposte*

*takes out 1/3 of his health*

    *repeat*

    or

    *roll at start*
*get a greatsword or something that can stagger him in 3-4 hits*

*roll roll roll until you see an entrance to attack him and stagger him*

    *then dodge again*
    *and repeat

Try fighting gwyn with 600hp and wear black sorceror set lol. I wanted to parry but just the fear of failing and getting killed in one hit was too much for him. I finally killed him after like the 10th try

i actually just beat him "the right way" for the first time tonite. previously i've summoned help or dodged like crazy and used pyro (he is weak to pyro, oddly enough)

i wore Havel's leggings/gauntlets with gold hemmed hood/chest and hornet ring. also, try and farm a black knight shield. the trick is DON'T try to parry the lunge unless you're awesome at parrying. dodge instead. then BLOCK the first swing and hit L2 right after the blow lands. depending on his mood, he might cooperate and just stick to slashing at you. then again, he might be a jerk and keep kicking, jumping around and grabbing you. just stay close and get those parries in. it took me about 4 successful parries, and about 2 minutes. very satisfying.

My sincerest thank yous to all above.
Yesuurd, i will inform you when i can play.
Danthuer, thanks for the YT vid link. But watching the video
feels cheating. Wont do it, thats my last straw to catch, if I cant defeat him.

Parrying and ripostes are techniques, that I, personally, have not
been training. Backstabs, during the game were so much easier to perform. Parrying+riposte are much dangerous cause the timing.

    Lets see what happens.

Where is a good place to practice parry/riposte? The silver knights in Anor Londo?
I am just before the kiln too, but I cannot parry. Maybe I can practice on forest invders?

If you saved sunbro from the sunlight maggot, you can actually summon him to help you fight gwyn and idk if its just me but I think solaire goes extra hard in this boss fight, every second he got the dude was pumping Gwyn full of lightning lol

silver knights are great for learning since their attacks aren't too punishing and easily telegraphed. The spear ones can be tricky since they have two very different attacks but I recommend trying them first or the hollowed soldiers of the burg if you have low hp.

    @Danthuyer:

Interesting videos. The second one is a good example of how easy it is to get in trouble when fighting Gwyn.

The player is waiting for the three hit combo. Blocks the first and parries the second hit. That goes very well until Gwyn suddenly decides to kick, draing almost all stamina. He survives because he has high vitality and defence.

Some of the bosses in this game can be extremely easy with a little luck and very difficult, when they mix up their attack patterns a bit.

A lot of the enemies can be parried. Just play through the game doing a lot of parries. But, fair warning, parry timing is different in PvP than in PvE. This is because of variable lag and less predictability.

I didn't use the parry technique to beat him first go. I used the rock pillars to shield some of the blows. And just kept dodging his attacks. I found the best window of opportunity to attack was when he tries to perform his grab attack

The Great Lord Greatsword werent as tough as my Man-Serpent +15. Crazy fella, that Gwyn. Stunning stamina. I tried that parry+riposte technique, which I didnt understand. Timing, I mean. So I had to use those pillars slow his rage. Just slashing him a bit, blocking, and then quick rush behind a pillar. Just bit of patience and well-timed hits, and lord was gone.

    On to NG+ !!

THANKS, FROM SOFTWARE, NAMCO, AND THIS FORUM DUDES!
