Arrows and Magic

I would like to know would archery skill be a good substitute for magic becasue I am working on my dexterity build I would not want to waste souls on magic and attunement nor would I like to spend 30k souls on a low use spell so would using a bow be a good substitute?

Bows all the way, if you get them far enough they can do massive damage, my Black bow at +15 with 40 dex does 400 damage per shot, and my Composite bow does more at the cost of less range. It's whatever you prefer though.

I agree. Avid bow user here too. Magic gets to be more powerful in the end but range and accuracy go to the bows.

As long as you're using it as a secondary ranged strategy to your main build, I would definitely say use bows over magic. They're less of a soul dump and is less likely to mess up your stats (especially if you're making a DEX build), but most importantly they can be used to snipe. Since magic needs you to be locked on to fire accurately (at least consistently ) it makes it tough for picking out enemies from a group or cheesing tough baddies from outside their range, whereas bows don't have a problem with this because of their aiming feature.

poison arrows are nice, fire arrows are cool looking and bows have longer reach than any spell.

and their last perk: Head shots.

Also some people use crossbows very effectively, right now I have a 125 dex character with no faith or int, so I use pyro and I am actually starting to test out the avelyn and other crossbows and see how they work out.
First time using crossbows, never use em and never use bows in battle although I have been hit by them in pvp and it seemed to me sometimes very effective.

Are any Xbows besides the Avelyn worth it?

They all have different fire rates and are all potentially useful. Avelyn is the obvious one due to the triple fire but they're all useful if you know the timing. Bigger ones do more damage but are slower and require more careful spacing I believe.

Seriously... if i was this guy on 2:34 i would lower my bow and let the host pass. What kind of sick person would knock someone of the ledge after he just passed the bridge?

Magic Composite Bow +10 does around 400 damage.

they're the only weapon you can stunlock quelaag with. (just shoot the human part and the whole mass will stun allowing you to get of another 2 shots or so.)

I find for normal combat situations having the composite bow at +5 chaos w/fire arrows seems to suffice. The dragon slayer greatbow is also great as seen in the video and if you do Pharis' bow up to +15 with high dex you can do massive damage.

I have run into a few people using bows in pvp. One of them was VERY effective at using it. So anything can be done.

Well, if you're using a dex build, instead of magic, you could go with faith, and use the Darkmoon bow. Anyways with 50 STR and 22 Dex my lvl 120 toon does around 200 damage with the Composite Bow +15 to people in full giants. That's a lot. Also the Composite Bow it's the fastest bow in the game.

I have won duels by only using it, but most of the times the guy rages and starts healing because he couldn't beat a good player with a bow lol.
