Lol, no worries, I have nothing against COD except for the fact that they are pumped out rapidly, which to me only means that they are a little to similar to one another happy

How did I miss this for ages.

Anyway, yes I love BF3 on PC. I only ever play Conquest mind you. I've been playing BF games since BF2. I thought Bad Company 2 was excellent but BF3 is just better (apart from Metro). So, what do people like doing in BF games? My favourite thing tends to be flying choppers. One of my mates was a demon in a Huey in BF Vietnam and taught me to fly when we were at uni. Since then I've generally flown and he guns, although I have spent hours in the guns too. We are pretty slick these days. I also tend to fly jets with him as a wingman pair which is very effective if you are on comms. On the ground I generally can't stand recon and only use support for trolling with C4. Assault and Engi I swap between depending on the map. With tanks/IFVs I'm still working on unlocking everything.

Can't wait for the long easter weekend to see what effect the patch has had. Also, they finally buffed the terrible terrible Havok. Maybe I can actually compete with Vipers whilst playing Russian now!

The fact that it's full scale war, not the silly crap CoD pulls. Also yes, Helicopters. I wrecked a few people with the recon heli's and even made it a sniping platform for my roomie, heck yes I was holding above the map and he would shoot off the side. I didn't have much luck with the others, attack copters he wouldn't gun and very few others bothered if they couldn't fly. Transports I usually tried to keep it in the air and have others spawn and drop to cap.

I play Solider/Sniper on the ground and swap into tanks as needed. I'm a beast in a tank, I've been in slug fests that could put that Greatest Tank Battles show to shame. Usually I'm the only person to go a whole round inside the same tank, but don't get me wrong I use them for the situation I am in. If I'm defending I am set up in a spot that gives me distance and coverage, I'm not just a tank I'm a huge sniper rifle. If I'm attacking I'll be flanking and blow apart extreme defensive threats to let my folks get through.

Maybe I'll rent it again and see if it's changed... I do miss the sheer epicness of the old ones.

A lot of things have changed with the patch, here are a couple notable ones:

    1) Suppression is a much bigger thing, don't expect to hit anything if you are under any form of suppression silly

    2) Unguided rockets will now instantly destroy all air vehicles except for transport copters I believe

    3) Appropriate hits to the sides of a tank will now disable it when it is at 100% health, expect be destroyed in two hits from any explosive

    4) Claymores can now be activated by vehicles, and can damage and kill people in light vehicles

    5) Iglas and Stingers now have a short enough range that they cannot effectively target Fighter jets, but have a faster lock on time and can disable scout and I think attack helicopters in a single shot.

    6) Javelins now do more damage to the front and sides of tanks, expect to be disabled in a single shot, if not almost destroyed

Hmm, the patch notes didn't mention the extended mags attachment on RPK-74M.

I will admit that it hurts to buy pcs, got my first new tower pc in about 7+ years and it costed me over $1000 Cdn without having bought a video card yet :/

Exactly. I was consideing buying a pc, literally, just to play Battlefield, but decided against it. Way to expensive.

I just found out a couple days ago that the USAS-12 received a fire rate nerf and has greater recoil. The USAS-12 also has a more difficult time taking out snipers with buckshot (makes sense considering it is a shotgun). These changes will likely make it easier to deal with USAS-12ers hiding around a corner in a tunnel laying on ammo while waiting to fire 8 rounds of explosive rounds into you, a good change overall in my opinion.

Explosive rounds got a big nerf as well. I played a little at the weekend, sadly you didn't seem to be on Berkut. Overall things seem better, although I really dont like how badly they nerfed the speed of repairs. My mate couldnt repair my tank to full before his damn torch went on cooldown on several occasions.

On a totally off topic note, I don't suppose you could tell me what the best place to buy a laptop would be in Canada Berkut? (i.e. what chain or store that's likely to be in Vancouver). Looks like my visa is getting approved.

Tanks also take damage faster, a tank shot to the treads of another tank is over 50% of its health.

I think the time difference is what prevents us from playing together Zechk, I am often on at times between 8:30am to 11:30am, 4pm to 6pm, and 9pm to 11:30pm eastern time, those times would be pretty awkward for you over in England.

And I unfortunately live 2/3 across the country from Vancouver, no idea for over there. I have grown fond of Canada Computers (they are only in Southern Ontario) though that is for parts, not whole computers. I also use a macbook as my laptop, which means I would probably be the least knowledgeable person for laptops, as I would scurry over the the macstore when I needed new laptop things that I wanted to pay outrageous prices for.

Well it didnt go so good, tried to play for 3 hours, longest i got to play was 5 mins. Game kept freezing and the last straw was when my ps3 told me that by not turning the ps3 off the right way(had no other choice with a frozen ps3) that i had corrupted my system... Had to run a 3 hour fix.

So long story but i smashed my disk and swore never to play again.

Yeah me too. 800+ hours on bad company, 1000+ hours on bc2, 67 hours on bf3. Could have and should have been great.
Been thinking about a gaming pc, might give bf3 1 more chance when i get a pc.

Let me know if you do, I would love to have a gunner for my choppers, I fly alone way too often sad.

Also, these video cards are hurting my brain, they are so expensive, and there is such huge variability in cost and effectiveness between companies, its causing me to cry a bit.

Currently thinking of a 560 Ti or a 6950, but depends on the price too. I see a 560 Ti for $214 dollars, but there is also a 560 Ti 448 core for over $300 :S

I got a 560 for $180 and it runs everything ever on Ultra High. You do not need any better than that until maybe Planetside 2.

Also, any tips for PC helis? I suck hardcore with them, and I've never gotten more than 10 feet without crashing. I can fly jets pretty well, and I'm also pretty good on the ground, but attack helicopters specifically evade me... right into the ground.

I was just typing a huge thing for you and I hit another button on my mouse, flipping pages and deleting it all sad. Give me a bit and I will type it back up for you happy.

Video card: Just to let you know, I am speaking in Canadian Dollars happy. I was hoping to do some extra bit of future proofing, hence why I was looking to purchase a higher up card, though I may drop down too (though I saw a 560 Ti for $214, could be a good deal).

    Copter tips:

    1. I use a joystick for all my flying, really helps out with that kind of stuff. For example, I have controls set as follows: Tilt forwards puts the nose down. Tilt back puts the nose up. Tilt left rolls the chopper left. Tilt right rolls the chopper right. Rudder changes rotor speed. Using this combination, I can say, do a tilt down to move forward and increase speed, putting me into an attack trajectory while increasing rotor speed to stop be from crashing, while tilting me right and rolling right to curve my trajectory to avoid shots. These things are really hard to do with a mouse and keyboard unfortunately.....

    2. If you need some practice, I would recommend learning basic flying (stability type stuff) by joining a completely empty server. For a bit more combat related practice, the chopper coop mission is great, as your chopper is really strong in it. Finally, if you have another friend to play with, having them act as other objects in the game (snipers, tanks, aa batteries, other choppers, etc.) gives you some excellent practice in both how to attack and defend against these various opponents and their tactics.

    Two very general tips:

    1) Flares and Chaff are picky buggers. Since the major patch (assuming there hasn't been one in the month since my pc died), flares no longer prevent lock ons. This means that they only stop launched missles. However, many players are still jumpy, and launch flares once they hear the lock on sound. This can be used to your advantage, you can give it a few seconds to see if they jump to use your flare. If they do, then you can wait for it to dissipate and launch your missles in between their flares, knocking them out of the fight. Similarly, chaff no longer stops launched missles, it just interferes with the initial lock on. You can use the opposite strategy then happy.

    2) This pertains to how to fight fighter jets. In many ways, fighter jets are built (for the game at least) to hunt down choppers and secure air superiority. Therefore, choppers can be very vulnerable. However, a very simple tactic can infuriate even the best fighter pilots. This tactic is the head to head + rolling missle tactic (yes I made that name up). First, fly high to avoid other forms of attack. Your benefit is that the jet must fly at you to hurt you. Your tactic is to move straight at it (or float in place). This is best with a slight slide motion to make it harder for them to hit you with bullets. Note that, if you have a gunner, he should be harassing the jet constantly during this to make the enemy grumpy and, if lucky, damaged. You should be using heat seekers for this tactic. The first part of the tactic is to just lock on to him. He will likely be doing the same (they like to use their missiles instead of their guns usually). However, the issue with this for them is that they won't achieve lock on until they are almost in front of you (they will have to break within a few seconds after to avoid a collision). This means that they have no time to use their guns!. Pop your flare immediately after you hear the missile launch alert siren. This is now your time to strike! You should do a slight nose up (to put a bit of back motion into your chopper) and roll AND turn in the direction that your opponent moves past you (they almost always go left or right, and down is not much of a disadvantage for you). If you perform the maneuver correctly, then you shouldn't lose lock on at all! Now, if they use chaff, that's okay, wait for a new lock on. If they have flares, give em a second or two to see if they get scared and pop their flare. If the do, then burn them with your two missiles, mission accomplished happy. If they don't force them to use their flare with one of your missiles. Then let it dissipate and fire your second to try and disable them, usually still a victory happy. In the possible event they full thruster back out after the pass and you lose lock on. That's okay, they have to repeat the procedure to hit you, so just fly lazily at them happy. If you fail to kill them, and they don't get good with bullets, then you at least tie up their fighter jets happy.

EDIT: You may wish to consider doing a nose down for this tactic rather than a nose up. The backward motion gives you a nice slide, but the nose down can help keep the lock if they go lower when they try to pass.

Hope that helps, I can give more advice too, I just figured that was enough for the first post winking.

Attack helis DESTROY jets. You don't even have to be a good pilot or have a gunner, but as long as you've got heat seekers a jet cannot touch you (unless they actually do, in which case you're all screwed).

Also, when you say "joystick" do you mean an actual joystick for flight sims n' such or just a regular ol' console controller?
