Gifting in the burg: my story and opinion Empty Gifting in the burg: my story and opinion

    Post by Wade_Wilson Wed Mar 07, 2012 7:33 pm

Today, I summoned a guy in undead burg to help me kill havel the rock. He dropped the full catarina set, a +5 cadaceus kite shield and a +5 warpick. I appreciated these, just because they will help me in the long run but they wont break the game at this early level.

However, when it gets too far is when phantoms go beyond the boundaries of "Minor helpful items" into "Low level godsends." I've had summons drop upwards of 50 humanity, lightning weapons, slabs and even rare weapons like the moonlight greatsword. Whats your opinion on this, and my case in particular?

If you start a new game, you'll find that a lot of summonees leave items for the summoner.

If having low level Godsends is a problem for you then give back to other low level players give them humanity and cool weapons they will love you for it and you may feel good too.

Ah, but that would be ironic in itself, as I am opposed to the notion of gifting low level players with high end weapons.

my cousin was given 3 titanite slabs... i have received a +4 lightning lucerne.... i could one shot sooo many things... i have also gifted people things, one time i was helping a faith build in the burg and i gave him a sanctus and a occult club he gave me the winged spear and soe others things in return, what i really don't like are people who ask for handouts like " you have +5 chaos weapon for me?" if i had a +5 chaos weapon of any sort im keeping it!!!

Unfortunately this is common place now.

I find it bad because I see so many people in the burg and parish with Black knight swords and various lightning weapons.. yet they still feel the need to have help on the gargoyles

    baffling. :|

You don't have to give game breakers you can give them small things like humanity, mosses or low level weapons there is no need to give high end weapons (if you are looking to be generous try astora's straight sword assuming they can handle it. it is a good sword until Anor Londo)

I remember one time though some guy asked me for a weapon, i thought okay i got this from back then so gave him like a +5 claymore and an upgraded hollow shield.

He messaged me saying "BK or lightning wep" I was like wtf?! immediately crystalled out of there, was pretty annoyed he had the gall to ask for such highly upgraded/end game gear

One of the most exciting summons for me is when my level 7 guy in the burg gets summoned to help kill havel. The experience was ruined once when a 2nd phantom showed all armored up and with Quelaag's Furysword. They changed what should've been a study in patience and skill to a massacre.

This thread reminded me of that. You don't want to make the game TOO easy.

I messaged them that using the bb glitch to assist hosts against bb glitch invaders is noble, but I recommended switching back to standard gear against the engine. He responded favorably, but I don't know if I changed his mind. Besides, there are probably many others who do that as well.

I'll sometimes drop 5 humanity or something if they really seem like a noob. Dropping too much stuff too early may seem nice, but it will probably stunt their growth and certainly weaken their playthrough experience. Helping them kill Havel for his ring and a fair batch of souls at low level is plenty of aid right there.

I would only summon to give people free souls since one of my chars could kill the gargoyles in 4 hits. (Don't judge me silly I was going to make a medium level helper and didn't want to farm and upgrade sh*t all over big grin)

I feel like upgrading a broken straight sword to Chaos +1 and hand those out, farmable, non game breaking, awesome xD

I just recently started a new character and had a guy invade me. I was like oh no, but instead of tearing my lvl 5 up he dropped a heater sheild and also helped me find a crystal lizard I didn't even know about. I thought that was nice cause the gift wasn't too great but good enough, and killing lizards is always nice. Unfortunately I had to kill him so I could continue with my game lol.

Then I summoned a guy to help me kill the first boss, just to make it a little easier, and he two shotted the guy! I felt cheated cause I still wanted a challenge but oh well

Word for word, pretty much the exact thing I would've said. I drop 1-5 humanity all the time. Or sunlight medals to sunbros who aren't crazy anti-griefers.

I've been gifted the Slumbering Dragon Ring by a Host in Blighttown once.

This was before I knew where to find it in Sen's Fortress. That ring was fun and I remember that host fondly. At the time I didn't know what he gave me because I didn't try it until after the boss was dead.

Since there are two of these in every playthough, that would be a good gift for a low level player.

That's exactly what you should have done. BB glitch gifting seriously hurts game balance. I was just reminiscing in another thread about how sad it is that people starting new games can no longer experience legit low-level invasions. They also can't experience legit low-level coop. Now everyone and their mother has lightning this and chaos that for their SL10.

It really makes the online factor of the game not as fun, but there's always gonna be those people that do stuff like that in any game. I guess it makes them feel good about themselves.

If I had any rep to give I'd give it to you. Well done sir.

If the gear can be found at the time I don't care about gifting. Gifting gear meant for after Anor Londo, or 99 of a very difficult item is absolutely game breaking. I hate what the BB glitch is doing to this game... all this trouble and yet I still see the same builds in SL120 PvP.

I dont hate the bb glitch. I will admit that its a very good way to quickly set up pvp builds rather than grind for 20 hours to get the necessary gear. I just hate the mentality that its breeding - that its ok to give new players end game weapons, and I have lost count of the amount of times I have been summoned to a guys world only to be messaged "Give me weapons."

The reason I hate it is because if people were generally using it for PvP builds (which I have ZERO issues w/ if that's what it's being used for) I feel we would be seeing less and less havels/giants wearers and more variety, yet when I PvP I don't. On the flip side I get invaded constantly in the lower levels by people in end game gear, there are multiple accounts of gifting ridiculous things, and then you have the mentality that is being perpetuated that summonees have to give out ridiculous gifts otherwise you get black crystaled out. This is why I hate it. If it was used for what people 'claim' they are using it for none of these issues would happen.

I like to keep some unusual weapons on my low level characters, to give to underpowered hosts. I usually upgrade them to +6, divine +0 or magic +0, so the host can upgrade them further. With unusual weapons I mean weapons that no one uses, but that I would like to see more of, like shortsword, pickaxe, warpick, morning star, partizan, lucerne, etc. But after the bb glitch I can't be bothered no more.

The BB glitch really does suck meeting players with Black Knight armor seriously in case you guys never saw my earlier thread my first pvp match was against a guy with black armor and I was just level 6 or 7 at the time giving items I think is nice as long as it doesn't ruin the game for others (items like humanity mosses coins low level soul items and maybe a green blossom) seriously now I don't do PVP unless I at lvl 120 because I hate dealing with these people so please people if you are going to give away stick to low level items or cheap weapons (like a short sword for example) don't give the low level players Black knight armor please and thankyou for reading this Gifting in the burg: my story and opinion 945058907
