Newbie DMB Unable to Invade Empty Newbie DMB Unable to Invade

Post by elliegray Sat Oct 12, 2013 4:26 am

I recently bought Dark Souls on a Steam sale (so, for the record I play on the PC with a controller) and have been playing it for a few weeks. I read the wiki pages on covenants and pvp, and was pretty excited to get involved.

I'm SL 58, and just finally got to join the Darkmoon Blades. Unfortunately, I can't seem to ever actually invade anyone. I've tried every area I've got access to. Sen's Fortress, the Undead Parish, and Anor Londo in particular. Every time though, I fail to find anyone to invade. Is it supposed to be this unlikely? I get invaded pretty often by darkwraiths and make sure to indict them every time... And yet I can't find anyone to invade.

I'm pretty bummed out. Since I'm a heavy melee/faith build, DMB is really the best covenant for me build-wise. Maybe I should just remake a character and go for a different covenant so I can actually do some PVP on my own terms.

The Darkwraith covenant is infinitely superior to Dark Moon .

The only thing the DMs have going for them is being able to invade lower levels (wohoo....) and having an OP build .

But you should be able to invade anyway, did you try the DLC areas ? There's lots of action there .

Also, you don't really need to remake that Character, you can just use Sunlight Blade as a buff and join the Darkwraiths in NG+ .

    opinion.

your sl is too low, go for 80-120, and play during busy times. less traffic on pc too, so stick to common areas like the burg and township.

you're just as likely to invade above your sl as below.

dm is the best cov for faith hybrids, so sticking with it is a good idea. you'd better get used to hosting though, because you'll get more fights faster if you both host and invade.

Well, I did go to Undead Burg and was able to invade, but there I just died 8 times in a row fighting the same two people. A hacker (with a giant head and clothing that clipped through everything and lagged so badly they teleported to and fro, often behind me) and someone else who just effortlessly ended my life every time, 3/5 of the times being from lag backstabs.

In the game's defense I'm kind of a dumbass and my build is worthless until I have a way to make use of my Faith at all in combat.

Yeah i gave up darkmooning on PC. Noone seems to indict and not many will have sin by the time you get to sens. Level up a bit and try further on area's. I got some half decent action at dukes and the dlc area's. Besides GWFL isn't the greatest.

1 handy thing about darkmoons, you can bluestone invade while hollow, so you won't have that pesky fog coming up and interrupting your invasion attempts.

Quote from someone on another board:

Blue Eye Orb invades below you in addition to the standard co-op range. So, while it can invade above you, there seems to be a much higher chance of success if your SL is higher. Not sure why this is (maybe it prioritizes the below formula more than the other), but that's how seems to work.

Unfortunately, as you experienced, the Blue Eye Orb still nets a lot of "Failure to Invade." No one has been able to confirm this afaik, but I believe that Red Eye Orb/Cracked Red Eye Orb can actually out prioritize a Darkmoon invasion. There are three reasons why I think this to be the case:

    1) In populated areas like the Burg, if you host at a SL of 80-100, you'll get WAY more Darkmoon invasions than if you were hosting at 120-125. Since most Darkwraiths invade the burg in the 100-130 range, and since a SL of 80-100 can be out of range from 100-130, it makes sense that there would be less Darkwraiths and more Darkmoons invading you at that range.

    2) It is exceedingly rare to find a SL 125 Spirit of Vengeance invading you when you host in the burg at SL 125. Now, there are clearly SL 125 SoVs, because on my earlier characters I was netting a nice 49k from many a SoV that would invade me as I was building a SL 80. So, where are they? And why is it that when an SoV does invade, it's almost always a much higher SL if you host at SL 125?

    3) You can find a ton of success invading as a SoV that are not common PvP places (or places where there aren't likely to be Darkwraiths). After 1.06 came out and the DLC, if you were a SoV at SL 130 and you invaded the Royal Wood, it was a gold mine of hosts who were in the SL 70-90 area. In addition, Lost Izalith, a place where there really aren't many invasions, is for some strange reason very easy to invade as a Darkmoon. Try it sometime, you'll be surprised.

tl; dr Blue Eye Orb gets out prioritized by Darkwraith invasions in its standard co-op formula, but not in its "below your level" formula. Maybe.

That first part is only half true. One can invade farther down than wraiths (10%+50 sl's to be exact) but this only makes it easier to invade lower sl's if you're comparing over vs Under leveled dms.

A sl 120-125 in the township should have the same invasion rates as a sl 140, because almost everybody is sl 100-125.

Its only tougher to invade below 90/110 because you can't invade those 100/120's anymore.
