Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
I've never used rapiers for PvP. How do these compare? Both look good. Any thoughts?

Ricards won the Fc tourney.
Slap a buff on it and your good to go

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
its trick is hitting r2 after the first one does a 4 hit thrust attack.
now you can see why a buffed one is so deadly.

I can never hit the R2, and I never even attempt to. Anyway Ricards with SLB or DMB is pretty powerful.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
Why always SLB or DMB ?
CMW too, I'm playing a spellsword with those two rapiers, first Ricard's with buff and when the buff is no longer in effect I switch to Velka's.
But I rarely switch, the R2 combo of the ricard's has already finished the opponent. 8)

Ricards+CMW=Kicking ***
I have 25 INT and using Oolacile Catalyst and it is awesome. You could pump your INT up and go for less END or VIT and be somewhat of a glass cannon build, but my toon can hold his own against big weapons, and I like that.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
I do like the animation of Velak, but I'm not always that big on casting spells so I don't often make int characters, Ricards is an utter beast. I have a Chaos one that I use for killing farmers sometimes, and if you can get one with low poise and land the R2, dead, flat out. Or if you can eat an attack and they have high poise while swinging trying to kill you, dead. Such a great weapon, the critical I don't even care about really.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
Gol - that's what I was thinking. Go Int, and use Velka's as a backup, once my buff wears off. So, Ricard's is a better starting rapier - buffable and better moveset? How's its range compared to Velka's?
Sorry, new to rapiers.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
I'd say Risk vs Reward on the R2 for the Ricards is a lot better. Both have a slight delay and start a combo, but the Ricards hits for a ridiculous amount of strikes suddenly, while Velka's hits for only few strikes before having to restart the combo.

I think they got the same range.
Same moveset except for the R2 combo, Ricard's R2 is a succession of quick and strong hits, the forst part of the combo has 2 hits and the 2nd has like 3 or 4, it's a straight line so you have to use it when the opponent is not expecting it cause it's pretty easy to dodge (I think, cause I never missed it yet) but like like I said it's a combo so if you miss the 1st part you can change the direction with the second part of the combo.
Velka's R2 is 2 slashing hits, like a "V" followed by a thrust and contrary to Ricard's R2 it uses very few stamina (less than every rapier).

Whatever works for different people. I have 50 VIT with the Ring of Fap and that gives me 1,8k HP. Pretty sweet. But yeah, TCC and 50 INT makes CMW extremely powerful.
Also, another thing with Rapiers (not sure if it's only Ricard's and whatnot), but the running attack is awesome. You do a little jump forward and attack twice.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
I have been using Ricard's in the forest to surprising results. Didn't really ever look at it as a gangbusters weapon but switched to it out of frustration and found it to be the quickest finisher I've used.
I actually used the run around Alvina's house trick in the forest thread, had the two puzzled and looking. Lurked in the house, equipped the hornet ring and landed a backstab on the phantom as they walked past unaware, followed by the double R2 finisher. Trolololol.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
Usually I keep a dead angle weapon for funnelling on the bridge there, but I've done this to great effect a few times against people who 2H big weapons. Get a Parry on them and have their allies block their rear as I Riposte, then as they rise I just slam R2 until they are dead, it is usually pretty effective. And yeah that Alvina's house trick is pretty great, I'm glad to see the advice and tricks in that thread helping out others in the forest.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
How would this combo work...
76 poise + Leo Ring + take a hit and try get off counters with Ricard's R2?
Kinda like a Poise backstabber but going for counters instead.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
Actually it does pretty well for a Riposte Poise build using a Hornet's Ring, usually it is a one hit kill. But that is for another thread and another time haha.
I can see the stamina advantage, usually I don't need the stamina because I kill the target by then but I guess it goes back towards the risk vs reward territory.

Just so I have this straight (because I don't  ) ... a counter is a strike that takes place while your opponent is in an attack animation right? I'm guessing it's much easier to hit via just a counter as opposed to getting a Parry or Backstab right?
So if you have a 76 Poise and enough hit points would it be viable to create a really nasty Counter build?
It seems like the 76 Poise + Leo Ring + Ricard's R2 would be wicked seeing as how Ricard's has a very fast and brutal R2.
I suck at parrying and backstabbing. Countering I'm thinking I can do.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
If you plan on playing with ripostes don't use Ricard's, it doesn't have any critical bonuses.
And "counters" are "parries".

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
If you are using Hornets Ricard's can actually Ohko a decent amount of players, so it's still not a bad choice. The regular rapier does more of course and don't get me started on the Gargoyle Halberd haha.

That's a bit confusing then. Here's the description on the Leo Ring...
- Strengthens counters ONLY with pierce weapons (or weapons that have a thrust attack).
- Boosts counter damage by 40%
- Counter attacks already do a +20% PHYS damage (only phys damage is increased), with the Leo Ring's boost it reaches +65%
Doesn't a Parry do a lot more than +20%?

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
Yes it does a lot more, also it increases all damage the weapon does, that's the reason my Chaos Weapons Ohko so many farmers haha. As well I'm pretty sure the Leo's Ring is pretty broken, I've never gotten an increase on any thrust weapon of mine, or any weapon of mine in general when using it, even +14 ones.

Re: Velka's vs Ricard's Rapier
Hmm, I always figured it was talking about ripostes. Well time to check that out, if that is the case Ricard's will be an abomination with a high poise build.
