Help a n00b? Anor Londo [PC] Empty Help a n00b? Anor Londo [PC]

    Hi!

I posted over in the Co-Op services sticky, but I thought I ought to make my own thread for higher visibility. (I hope that's not a no-no).  It seems like PC players are slightly harder to find....

    SL 39, GFWL ellehbella

I'm having a bear of a time with Ornstein and Smough. Would a veteran care to help a gal out?  I can do fairly decent damage to the both of them, but I'm just not skilled enough to keep track of the two of them at the same time.  It would be immeasurably helpful to have a phantom draw some attention away from my squishy pyro.  But sadly, I have seen no signs for days.  My only help is Solaire... who is... um... far more interested in killing giants than O and S.

Short of Co-Op, is there any advice that can be offered?  I'm wondering about a few things....

If hunting for a summon, is it more productive to start at the first bonfire and use the short-cut?  Or is it better to start from the second bonfire within the cathedral? (I've been avoiding the second fire as I know PvP is highly active in this area, and I want to avoid wading through silver knights)

Is a summon from the base of the steps in front of the elevator able to traverse the entire level?  For some reason I thought they could not....

For a very lightly armored pyromancer (with claymore, glove, and catalyst for Great Magic Weapon spell), would you recommend taking out Smough or Ornstein first?  I have managed to face both in their "Super" forms, but I'm curious if there are any special strategies for characters who are light on their feet.  My brilliant plan consists of "Don't Let Them Hit You." big grin

I'm getting terribly frustrated with myself. :C  This is what railroaded me from my first playthrough attempt, and I'm bound and determined to get through it this time.

I would love to help you, but my lowest level character is SL100 =/

On that note, I would do a bit of soul grinding. I couldn't beat the two until I was 57 I think.

Something I always did, was I took out the Giants and the sniper before summoning buddy pal Solaire.

And finally, if you wind up having to do it on your own. Kill O first. Smough is way way slower. Simply run to one end of chamber, and deal some damage to Orstein before Smough arrives. Rinse and repeat.

    Good luck!

Not exactly a veteran, but I'd be happy to help! I beat them at about your level, so I know what it's like to have to fight them with just Solaire...

That sounds great, LS8762!  (Y name so hard to type?? lol)
I'm not really looking for someone to just smoke 'em for me, so that's just fine. happy  I'm at the top of Sen's right now, but I can head right back to Londo.

    @Nathan
Wow, and I thought my level might be a little too high!  I've been dumping a ton of souls on equipment and less on skills this time (only leveling enough to use what equipment/spells I need). It seems to be working okay, but I can't really take a ton of hits.  Thankfully, there are no attacks from O or S that will one-shot me though.

Something I might have failed to mention, is my lack of skill.

I'm not very good a dodging, so I need a lot strength to hold mah great shield tongue

Glad to hear you got through it!

Ahaha, well I'm pretty much "evasion is the best defense".  So... roll, roll, roll.....

Thanks Nate.  We got through it by the skin of our teeth.  I had forgotten that I did not kindle the fire within the cathedral and did not have the shortcut open (like a total n00b), so I entered the fight with only 3 estus.... but L pulled through like a boss.  happy  That was some of the coolest co-op eva!
