Weapon Attribute Stats? Empty Weapon Attribute Stats?

Post by lordcaim Sun Sep 29, 2013 12:19 pm

    Hey guys!

I was wondering, if I had 99 dex and 99 faith, what would deal more dmg a regular +15 bandit knife or a divine +10 bandit knife? I know that the stat bonus on the regular one for dex is A but how much dmg does that add at 99 dex? Same goes for the divine one with D stat on dex and B stat on faith. My guess would be the divine one deals more dmg, for it alrdy does more dmg without calculating with the stat bonuses, but then again I do not know the difference between A and B stat, it could be very high, but also neglectibly low! thx for your time, answering my noobish questions^^

    greets caim.

Hmm, well the damage for a +15 bandits knife is 286 and the divine+10 is 344, but that's split damage. Although because it's a small difference, and the magic damage of the divine is actually 211, with a 133 physical.... I would question whether or not you are buffing.

With a buff, the +15 is by far the best. But otherwise I would say it's a tie.

Oh and by the way, this is a great site http://mugenmonkey.com/darksouls/
By the way, try not to go past 40 for a stat for the diminishing returns makes any points there kinda worthless. For example at 40 dex, the Bandits Knife would now do 264, which isn't a big difference at all.  (an exception to this is weapons going down the divine, occult, magic or enchanted path, then you want to increase int or faith to 50 before diminishing returns applies)

With proper scaling, a +15 will always be better. They do pure physical damage (not all the time but we're gonna use an Iaito for example.) The Iaito has Dex scaling. So at 40 dex, a +15 will do more damage than say an elemental ever will. Even if you have 40 Dex, and 40 faith (occult and divine scale with faith) the +15 will scale with the Dex and will do pure physical damage. This leave the Occult and Divine not as effective as the +15.

If you have the proper stats to scale with a weapon, pure physical damage (+15) will always better better than any other kind of damage because elementals have to go through 2 defenses. Which is split damage.

At low soul levels, elementals win because you won't have the right stats without being really fragile to back up the scaling. So, low SL go with elemental. Higher SL, go with +15.

Now about 99 faith etc etc, there's diminishing returns. Meaning after 40 (not usually worth leveling anything up past 40 except for a few cases for like spells or certain weapos for example) you start to get diminishing returns. Which means you example with a +15 Iaito, if you level up to for example 50 Dex, the extra AR you'll get won't be worth the extra 10 levels. So rule of thumb, don't go past 40 (for damage wise.) There is spells and weapons that need 50 to use. But those usually aren't worth it either.

+15 - scaling = better than elementals - Higher SL

Elementals - low stats = split damage - Low SL

Great thx! Rly eyeopening answers from you. Now I am a bit reliefed, for I wanted to go a real high SL character, its good to know, that i just need 40 dex, vit and endurance. Maybe I'll also put some points in attunement for more Pyro slots. Wanted to go for an assassin build with the bandits knife(dont have the addon or I'd go for that 167 crit dagger) + parrying dagger and second weapon a Iaito+ a good overall shield =).

If you are interested in this: I tried that whole experiment for the bandit knife, and the Iaito. I had 40 faith and 40 dex also 20 str. I made a +15 bandit knife, the riposte did around 1070 dmg to the hollow soldiers. After that i degraded it and made it divine+10 and the riposte did 1131 dmg. So the divine one on bandit knife is actually stronger(not much) if u go for 40ish stats, i bet at 99 this looks different, cause the scaling on the regular is better. The Iaito on the other hand reacts different. Its faith scaling does not go from c to b, in the end it deals alot less dmg than the regular one. So in the end it depends on the weapon u chose which enchantment is better, if u go for 40ish stats.
