So I've recently started my first SL1 run, so far it has been a blast. Really thinking about playing nothing but base level builds for the rest of time I play this game. Even considering going in to DS2 starting out with base SL builds.
Anyway, I was just curious about a few things.
First though, my gear so far:
Fire Battle Axe +5 (My main weapon of choice)
Lightning Dagger +5 (For when Fire is not the optimal damage type)
Battle Axe +5 / Dagger +5 (Just for fun, love coating them with Poison resin)
Light Crossbow +5
Pyromany Flame +10
Jagged Ghost Blade
Divine Battle Axe +5
Grass Crest Shield
Crest Shield
Dragon Crest Shield
I understand a lot of people swear by the Reinforced Club for SL1. Personally the Battle Axe feels right to me. I'm a big fan of the Claymore and the Battle Axe feels to me like the SL1 Claymore. Dagger is another one I love just for it's raw speed output.
More looking for your opinions on what has worked for you, what you thought was fun, and why. I know throughout the Wiki on the Forums I could find a cookie cutter "most effective" SL1 set up. Not looking for raw stats, stats can be made up for with play style. So here are the questions:
Do you generally prefer a Quality weapon coated with Resin, or straight Elemental paths?
Favor Ring or Havel's? I know favor ring boosts more traits overall, but it's kinda stuck there once you put it on. Don't know if the extra health and stamina is as helpful on a SL1 as from what I understand not getting hit is a better strategy for survival then being able to "tank".
Armor; Is it worth trying to work Def. stats or do you tend focus on mobility? Maybe even a combo of style, mobility, and resistances...
What armor set ups do you use? Do you find 1 that is decent (for looks or for stats), or do you tailor your armor to the zone you are running?
Does poise (in PVE) matter at all on a SL1? As I said I tend to go for just trying to not get hit at all instead of tanking hits. From what I understand poise helps in continuing through a motion even while being hit (finishing a roll or swing even though you've been hit in the middle of it).
Thanks in advance for any input. Really loving the SL1 concept so far and looking forward to many more hours of fun on it.
