Elder Scrolls Help
So I recently find myself an owner of an Xbox 360 through a series of odd events (given most of the system actually). I have recently picked up Oblivian and Skyrim for ps3 to play. The question I have is should I first get Morrowwind for Xbox and play that? I figured out that I can play the Xbox version on the 360 because I have a HD that I can install. Is there a reason to play Morrowwind first or should I go straight to Oblivian or Skyrim? It looks like I can get a decent goty Morrowind for about $20. Just wondering and thanks in advance for the responses. I might add I have never played an Elder Scrolls game so I have no experience with them.

Re: Elder Scrolls Help
I would say start with Morrowind if it can play that. Didn't think it could but I'm not up on 360 these days (even though I have one). They're all really similar but as the series progressed it allowed for less and less customization. Less about pieces. Less spells and less ways to make/use them, etc. They're all really good but since they're all also really long, start with the best one

Morrowind is on the list so you should be fine. I'm pretty sure the events of Morrowind predate those of Skyrim and of Oblivion so if you want to go chronologically, it would make sense.

Morrowind is an excellent game, provided you are open minded. It is stat based so you cannot go slashing through everything like a moron. It can be difficult at first but quickly becomes both rewarding and entertaining as you progress. By far my favourite Elder Scrolls game.

Re: Elder Scrolls Help
play morrowind first, skip oblivion, play skyrim and marvel at your disgust with how simplistic it is, and then know that its still better than oblivion. godhand is better than oblivion.

I laughed at this.Forum Pirate wrote:skip oblivion
I can see why you advise it,Oblivion was very generic in comparison to the other games, only good if you are on PC for the mods.

Re: Elder Scrolls Help
mmm, some day i should try it.
I don't like stat based games much, and didn't like Oblivion, somewhat enjoyed Skyrim, but all the internet agrees that Morrowind is the best....

Re: Elder Scrolls Help
in the name of appealing to the masses, each game past morrowind has been sequentially less complex and with fewer class specific things to do.Hue wrote:mmm, some day i should try it.

There are also no requirements after morrowind to advance. In oblivion/skyrim you need no stealth ability at all to max rank in the thieves guild, or magic for the mages guild ect and can do it all as a heavy armored warrior. In morrowind if you want to advance as a warrior in the fighter guild, you actually have to get weapon/armor skills leveled before they'll advance you.
There are also like 40 skills in morrowind and like 12 in skyrim.

Also the monsters don't level with you in Morrowind. Finding a vampire hideout when you're not high level is a problem.

Re: Elder Scrolls Help
All of the above may sound bad but they are actually great, playing Dark Souls should tell you that. An easy game holds little in the way of rewards, finishing the main quest is actually difficult in Morrowind. Instead of starting out able to slaughter bandits and soldiers, you can be killed by Mudcrabs. Your character isn't just handed great gear and the skills to use it,you have to earn it first.
Also,Telvanni wizard towers FTW.

Re: Elder Scrolls Help
So...it sounds like I should play Morrowwind then from the sounds of it. To tell you the truth I avoided the Elder Scrolls series because I thought the 1st person combat looked kinda hokie. Unfortunately I compare everything to Demons Souls these days which was a bit unfair on my part. I am almost done with Dragon's Crown right now and have loved it. It is as old-school brawler as you can get and has been great! I am optimistic about playing the Elder scrolls for what it is.

Re: Elder Scrolls Help
I've only ever played Skyrim, but watched a friend play Morrowind. He's played through it many times, and recommends it, but he mentioned that he has never beaten it on Master difficulty without cheating (i.e. console commands) because hitting a target has a luck factor! Just thought I'd mention that because combat that involves luck can be a turn-off for some people.

Re: Elder Scrolls Help
Personally I love all three but more for exploration than combat. They all have a lot of hidden gems in the story and quest concepts. Morrowind just has the most complex character building and world so it gets the nod. The other two have some areas in their worlds that are breathtaking.

Start with Morrowind. If you start with the other two, especially Skyrim. You won't be impressed by Oblivion or Morrowind.

Which can also be easily modded ^^ to at least an Oblivion standard. It really is an easy choice. Morrowind is just better.Forum Pirate wrote:only graphics wise for morrowind. everything else is better.
