    Plunging counter?

Post by Pilgrim34 on Sun Sep 08, 2013 5:55 pm

Now, I was in the forest earlier with my dex character and I had managed to kill the host's phantom and I had driven the host back towards the entrance door.

The host backed right up against the wall to the left of the steps and I quickly flipped up the stairs onto the little ledge about half way down, then did a plunge attack onto the host (bearing in mind that this drop is about the bare minimum height required to do a plunge).

The host was using a grant and was mid-swing as I hit him. I took some damage from his swing but my plunge hit him for around 1050 damage resulting in his death.

I was using an unbuffed Uchi (no hornet ring either) which is known for having fairly modest criticals, so could it be that counter damage was added on in addition to the plunge in this situation?

Sounds like that's what most likely happened. You "countered" him while doing a plunging attacks. And those attacks do a good bit of damage already. I always try to go for those attacks if it's possible during random invasions.

Did it twice to some guy invading me in the parish yesterday right before the fog at the top of both ladders where you summon Solaire. I hit him a couple times and he fell off. I plunged him and when he got back off he fell down the next ladder. I plunged him again and he died. I proceeded to do Well What is it  because it was awesome.

I think I did that once in the forest, the host was ganking with a phantom and they were at the bottom of the stairs after the bridge were Alvina is. They cornered a red phantom and started to hack away, he WotG'ed them but died anyway and as he was dying the host continued slashing at him while the phantom did a 'point down' so I did a plunge attack on top of the host for 1k+ damage and then killed the phantom with a tempest.

Cool thanks for clearing it up it's probably a useful strategy to use in future if you can lure the host towards those sorts of areas!
