Disgruntled Dark Souls Player Looking for New PVE Build Ideas

I'm new to the forums but I just want to say that even with everything Dark Souls put me through I still can't stop thinking about it. I play the game on Xbox. My PC can't run it. 

Anyway, the first time I beat the game my stats were all over the place. I basically used the lightning spear +5, havel's armor, favor ring and havel's ring. I started playing on NG+ and my save game glitched and was lost forever. Every time I attempt to load this character the entire system freezes. I played with no guides so that was 100 hrs down the drain.

I made a new build DEX/INT. I started collecting the lord souls, got my PGS to +15 and was just dominating everything. I spent 15 bucks on the expansion and right after beating the first expansion boss I got a different but no less game-ending glitch. Now every time I load this character I get a disc read error. Everything I've read online about this (which isn't much) says that I'll never get the save to load properly again.

I was kind of devastated after that. I was really pissed and swore I'd never play it again. But I started watching speed run vids and realized I could get a character with comparable stats to either of my guys way more quickly than I thought. As much as I loved the PGS +15, I don't want to make the same character again. However, I'm not sure what to make next. 

I was thinking of two handing great swords and doing miracles, since those were play styles I hadn't tried, but the idea of that just doesn't excite me that much. What should I do??? Ideas welcome! Oh also I don't have Xbox live. I was thinking about getting it just for Dark Souls but I'm wary now because I don't feel like paying 30 bucks only to keep losing my saves.

Yeah, I've had a character save that wouldn't load anymore. I just deleted it and never had the problem again apart from some (very rare) freezes from time to time that haven't done any long-term damage.

Anyway, to your greater point, there are really so many playstyle options it's hard to suggest just one. I you want to use a big greatsword and miracles then go ahead and do so. I don't see what the issue could be, other than freezing and junk.

well if ur up for something different.. you could fufill a fantasy of mine and make a vit gouge build that uses the red and blue tearstone rings.

If you were enjoying the dex int you could always just do a 27 str 40 dex build and then slap on some attunment for pyromancies.. this would give you a lot of weapon options such as bigger weapons like the murakumo and the claymore and the gargoyle tail axe.. to more "manageable" smaller weapons such as the straight swords, curved swords and, uchi swords. itl give you a good chance to test how much you like the bows aswell.

I got to say, you are really unlucky. I dont think I ever had any problems with any of my saves in Dark Souls. Is there anything you can think of that would cause this? I don't know, switching the game off while its saving maby.

Thanks everyone. It's possible that the first time my save glitched it was my fault for turning off the console at the wrong time. I was getting a little lazy about quitting to the menu and I paid the price for it. The second time was the result of an issue with my console. It's old and I've gotten similar disc read errors on other games. I happened to get one dark souls at the same time that the game was saving and I guess that corrupted it. 

Anyway, yeah, I'm definitely gonna do pyromancy. The thing I liked about sorcery was range attacks and buffs. I'm thinking about trying for some faith buffs and then using a bow. Are there bows with stat scaling? If so is it a dex thing? I still haven't decided if I want to do str weapons or dex weapons. In the end the spear felt cheap to me cause I would just keep my shield up the whole time so there was little skill involved. I once leveled up the great scythe and that was a really sweet weapon. I'm thinking about using a halberd or possibly a BSS or katana. So many possibilities.

All bows scale to something. Crossbows do not.
