Sunlight Blade's Top Ten Series...

Is kind of mediocre IMO. There is usually only 1 or 2 impressive or interesting submissions each week to me, and a lot of the ones that he picks he overhypes. Like "AMAZING ring switch parry" or "EPIC menu switching skills", which clog up half of each video. And those things really aren't that impressive to me. All you need are fast fingers and practice, I just think it's more impractical than practical. And I see some of the same 3-5 names every week. You can tell there's effort in it, but it's also kind of a cop-out. Whereas smaller uploaders are doing everything that a collective of people do in these top ten videos, SLB doesn't do anything other than edit them together. I think that it's a good idea, but SLB has a bias towards certain things/people so it ultimately suffers. Like the cosplay video, the number 1 video was a guy switching his equipment, hitting once, then switching. I don't know, it just seems uninspired to me.

Back to the main topic, a top ten is a good idea, but it isn't executed well IMO.

Their is so much wrong with all of that ^ that I don't exactly know where to begin, or even if I should begin.

You lost me at "Call of Duty has a better community than..."

For me the actual impact dark souls has had outshines the game itself (though incredibly well made on a probably small budget). It brought the crushingly difficult, gameplay focused games of the 20th century kicking and screaming into the 21st century 3-D graphics obsessed environment of video gaming. For me, dark souls was a reminder to the industry of it's roots and what made video games popular in the first place- and a special one at that

Anyways honestly I think half the youtube community in general is idolised for no reason. Some are good players, some are great players, some have some interesting opinions on the lore. Why what youtubers do or say on their channels becomes the be all and end all of what DkS is all about I have no idea.

Yeah, because everything is wrong with an opinion... and CoD at least has a community that can agree on most things and play by the same rules.

I go to YT, but I rarely read the comments, for anything, not just DkS. And, I take what the gamer says with a grain of salt. I may agree with them, or disagree with them. This community is divided and have a broad range of opinions. But, in my experience, the majority of the community is good. That is, they aren't jackhats. They are willing to help, if needed, and say thanks if you help them.

I do grow tired of everyone's unique rules, and the assumption that you must play by them, or else you get labeled as "tryhard", "dishonorable", "cheap" and so on. But, my experience with this community is overwhelmingly positive.

I agree with regards to the Top 10 videos, and, yes, "uninspired" is the word but he seems to have his fans who like watching but, for me, they just aren't that entertaining.

Re the Community: It is demarcated between some very creative players who are a joy to fight against/co-op with and others who I wish I could flush down a toilet, but there is nothing Left/Right about this split. It is just certain gamers gaming a certain way; in a way that enhances everyone's fun or in a way that downgrades the entire Souls experience. But Left/Right are ideological alignments along a political spectrum, it has nothing to do with the Dark Souls community. Though I understood perfectly what you meant I just didn't find it proper. I'm sure there are jerks/good guys along the political spectrum.

About the top 10 series. I think SLB should just wait a little longer before releasing a new one so people had more time to get those clips. Most of the clips are honestly not that great. Like you said, it's a great idea but maybe not executed that well. I hope he keeps on making those videos though, there is always something worth watching

About the youtube community, i would have a lot to say about. It will probably just start a flame war so i would rather not. It's a little disappointing how many youtubers seem to be more concerned about making their name known, getting subscribers and showing them beating up some bad players than actually making entertainment.

DkS community in general. Well, a lot of complaining. It has been better. It's still pretty great though. I still get some nice messages when pvp'ing and co-oping. There's still great events going on every now and then. A lot of FCs etc.

In fairness to slb he's doing something different, 95% of the vids out there are the carbon copies of each other,a bit of metal\rock soundtrack with some melee fighting. As for his clips he can only submit what is submitted to him. I agree with you on the moveswapping but it did look cool.

As for the COD comparison, there's really not many ways to play the game. Camp, run around or teamplay. There's so many different ways to play souls and with so many ways you're going to get people who don't like playing a certain way and they label everyone else. I come from a BF series background and you should see the whinging, there's a bit more to BF than COD, so you've tank *puppies, jet puppies, sniper puppies, heli puppies etc etc etc. And COD back in the days when you'd servers, you should've seen the amount of restrictions going around on perks, weapons etc, these could be set by the server, they made some of the souls rules look pretty bland.
