As the title states. Imo, backstab fishing is not cheap. It is an easily counterable tactic and it actually pretty funny when people do it. The reason this is posted is because there was a debate in the chat and we wanted to see what the community has to say.

What is everyone's opinion on backstab fishing being "cheap"?

It's annoying, but BS fishers are easy to counter so I wouldn't consider it even remotely cheap.

When lag is involved it's incredibly cheap. Sometimes you just can't help losing to them then. I know that everything can be cheap when you involve lag, but backstabs are so much more powerful and freeze you.

Try not to make crazy lag a deciding factor. I understand this is Dark Souls but lag effects everything, not just backstab fishing.

Just think of backstab fishing itself. The tactic.

The only fishing I consider cheap and also boring as *** is roll bs'ing, it's the same as fishing for a pivot bs since people do nothing but wait for you to attack and roll bs you, yeah there's certain weapons like curved swords that are perfect for roll bs'ing but for big slow weapons roll bs'ing is just so cheap, I know people are gonna be like you need better timing but you don't even need good timing to roll bs a str user since they're so slow, you could say try to dead angle but those roll I frames are just cray cray. After all the time using str weapons that's the most boring strategy I come up against, not only because it's hard to counter but because it turns the fight into a game of footsies which no one will win since no one will ever attack, ever.

IMO it becomes "cheap" when some one stacks their poise past 70 or so. As long as the lag isn't too bad I can handle it, but I have to resort to boring and cheesy tactics to survive.

Other than that, it's not "cheap" because "bs fishing" is really easy to counter.

It depends on how the BS is being fished imo.

If you're just constantly circling then you're just a boring player.

If you're stacking a bunch of poise to poise bs, then I don't like you and I'll switch to my Silver Knight Spear and kite you all day until you die.

Just regular fishing. There was a debate and there was no specifics givin. No one said poise backstabs or roll backstabs, so just refer to circling. Plain jane backstab fishing.

No. BS fishing is just like any other move spamming. Boring as hell. But, BS fishing has a counter and that counter can be very punitive, and easy to do, once you practice it. Therefore, sincei t is easily punishable and severely punishable, I don't consider it cheap.

And, we can take lag off the menu, since it affects effects every move and is an unavoidable part of the game.

    While it's annoying to fight...

It's a viable and completely counter able tactic. Not really cheap at all.

    I don't consider it cheap.

Most people whose primary tactic is bs fishing use the hornet ring and this takes up a valuable ring slot. Usually this comes at the cost of poise or hp. If they are a lightweight bs fisher then it's easy to stunlock them with any weapon (falchion or gold tracer is great for this).

If they're a tank bs fisher then just keep a distance and use a spear. You will have the advantage of greater mobility. Alternatively you can equip one piece from the thorns armour set and roll into them, the slight thorn damage will usually cancel the bs.

I voted yes because, even tho I don't PvP, I have gotten into being invaded and someone trying to get bs's all the time is annoying. How can someone like myself get any better at PvP if they have to deal with the same thing over and over again.

Well... To be honest depends on situation. If a randomer does it it's fine, though boring. If a guy I know just does it to me, I would be disappointed..

Primarily though, it just makes PvP boring as anything, and not worth playing.

Anyways, Thread locked as per OP request
