Sometimes I see other players in full armor with a black/grey aura/cloud like they are toxic or something. What have they done to be this way?

Gravelords.
When you use Eye of Death, it will generate a black smoke-like aura around you. It looks similar to having Toxic.

Re: Toxic players.
Those are gravelords gravelording.
I once felt really bad since gravelords do it for pvp, I invaded one then bowed, and went on to treat them like a veteran PvP'er and killed them in seconds. I then realized...It was just a toxined quester that was probably thinking "Jeezus Christo, why was that guy trying so hard to kill me when he could have two shot me anyway?"

Cool. Think it's finally time to join the gravelords. Have not done that or princess guard yet.

Re: Toxic players.
If you ask me, the whole gravelording concept is deeply flawed. I've tried this at high levels, and it seems like the only people who invade are regular darkwraiths, so nobody's world seems to even have a change to get cursed. Why wouldn't they have designed the covenant so you could do this in a world where your boss was dead, so that people HAD to invade you to get rid of the phantoms?

Because the online play won't be active... Because you killed the boss

He's saying they should have made an exception with regards to the Gravelords.Serious_Much wrote:Because the online play won't be active... Because you killed the boss

Re: Toxic players.
I think Gravelords would work much better, even with current netcoding if you could affect people on NG.

Re: Toxic players.
It was possible, but got patched. As for the reason. No idea, but it was an act of idiocy. It basically killed the Covenant, because while Gravelording is fun to get constant invasions in PvP hotspots, it made the BP enemies rare. As far as the idea goes, I always assumed that Gravelord infects another players world with strong enemies and the only way to get rid of them is to kill the Gravelord. It's a good concept, but when you remove the enemies, all you get is a reversed RSS, that doesn't work most of the time. On NG+, most players are strong enough to take care of the BP enemies, if they appear at all (I saw them only 4 times in 1000+ hours) and so there's no need to search the area for the Gravelord sign.WhatDoesThePendantDo? wrote:I don't know why you can't, honestly.
That said, the BP enemies themselves are usually easy to kill and only have huge HP and attack. The only two places where BP enemies are a problem are Chasm and Moonpit.
As the masochist I appearently am, I would prefer if BP enemies weren't Covenant based, requiring another player's interaction, but were placed in the world when you get a Sin, or fulfill some other requirement instead.
When I played the game unpatched, there were BP enemies in Ariamis every time you became human. It was tied to Jeremiah and as soon as you killed him, BPs disappeared. It was a good introduction to the BP mechanic and I enjoyed Ariamis even more because of it. But now, when I enter Ariamis offline, nothing happens. Perhaps FROM removed it, or changed the requirements for it to work, such as being on NG+ perhaps. No idea, but I miss it.

Re: Toxic players.
Right. An exception would have meant that all my gravelording would not be interrupted by regular invasions.WhatDoesThePendantDo? wrote:He's saying they should have made an exception with regards to the Gravelords.Serious_Much wrote:Because the online play won't be active... And I also agree with Sentiel...there needed to be more instances where your world would be cursed. Tying it to sin seems like a sensible idea. Perhaps the framework might be that any area where you committed the sin would remain cursed. This would give invaders a bit of extra challenge in hotspots. Imagine roaming BP's with non-scripted movement and location. Awesome.
I think I've played this game as much as most people here, and yet I've only ever seen one of my worlds cursed, in the Parish. I kind of feel like I've missed out on a small portion of the game because of this, never having to fight those uber-enemies.
