Soul and Humanity Theory Empty Soul and Humanity Theory

Post by Wintercatalyst Thu Aug 08, 2013 6:00 am

I have had a theory on the concept of souls and humanity for quite some time and would like to see what others think of it.

Souls can be split like humanity, and like humanity, desire to be whole. We can look at souls as a kind of 'purity' and Humanity as 'darkness'. So going off that I think it would be fair to say more humanity makes for a darker being as more souls make for a more pure being. Lords, are regarded as 'most pure' as they possess a Lord soul, granted there are truly 3 lords and only one Dark Soul but you will notice you can gain humanity by collecting souls.

As an example, maybe for every 5000 individual souls is equal to a single humanity. This means however big the Dark Soul is (how much it was split, 5000 times, 10000 times) it is equal to all 3 Lord souls combined, if we are going off the 'splitting dark souls in humanity theory.'

This also leads me to assume that humanity is the opposite of a soul. They are the natural opposing forces. We also know that Humans can possess both soul and humanity at once. I think this is due to not being effected by either soul ( Lord or Dark) to the extent that the being will absorb the properties becoming fully consumed by one particular soul type.

I further believe souls exist in three forms; Clumps (those ones you find i.e. undead soldiers soul), Held (the soul meter) and intertwined (when you level up). Clump souls are essentially Held souls that have not been absorbed and the possessors have been indefinitely killed, it is the same case for bloodstains. Held souls come from directly killing something 'living' with souls. And intertwined souls are souls that are linked to the being by bonfire's levelling up, once linked you cannot take them out and each time more souls must be required to balance the soul/humanity ratio.

You will also notice that souls are not like we normally look at souls, as in it is your inner self and personality. Souls are more or less an inner power source but contributes to personality only when absorbed (i.e.. increasing intelligence with souls would make you smarter). it is the reason one can appear in soul form in other worlds and retain that same power. it is like leaving a body and using the absorbed souls to manifest a being, as bodies cannot properly pass through worlds.

In addition, you only require one humanity to be in human form, and hold the rest for item discovery. I would think that each human already has a base soul but no humanity since the inception of the dark sign (which I think disables humans to retain humanity, thus become undead). Therefore humans are now only half of a whole. they must constantly get humanity or get equal amount of souls in order to remain sane. a human only needs on humanity and one soul but it is possible to acquire ample amounts due to the nature of humans ( I do not think Lords or the furtive pygmy can obtain any more than they have, it is impractical for them).

There is risk involving having more than needed and we can see it in Manus and Oolacile. Humanity corrupts the body and mind when taken in HUGE amounts, they only master of it is the furtive pygmy. Souls corrupt the mind with power which we saw in Gwyn, he tried to hold on to his power and ended up becoming effected by it. Gwyn must of turned to humanity for power as he is undead and possibly hollow.

Humans are the halfway link between Lords and The abyss, they have the power to obtain equal of both or whole of one side. this is a crucial reason why the serpants recruit humans as they are the only other beings that can harness humanity properly (Lords cannot use it, rats just have it.)

If you find any plotholes in this feel free to correct me. happy happy

I really like this idea. It kind of goes with the whole "Yin" and "Yang" that we use in the real world. I don't believe humans are born inherently good or evil. We start out in between and decide where to go from there or are sometimes forced by different situations. We also know that too much of anything can have a negative effect. I say kudos, sir.
