I'm invading Anor Londo by the Solaire bonfire with the blue eye orb. Before I spawn... I see fog, then black, then a boss cutscene. Not, the beginning cutscene, though... the mid-fight cutscene. I spawn at the normal location but the doorway in is fogged over. Smough died in the cutscene, so I see Ornstein's (empty) health bar at the bottom of my screen the entire invasion. So, this guy is using Mega Mule and hosting... kay. I engage him by the door hoping to kill him before his summon arrives. He's got no armor other than a mom mask, a Katana and is super-fast rolling, but not flipping. I'm able to do a bunch of damage, but he can roll out of stuns without having to toggle and he I-frames a bunch of hits too. He heals, but continually fails to BS fish me.
I see a white start to spawn and then before he really spawns he's on the ground like I had wogged him. I did use wog right before he started to spawn, but the white should have not been able to get hit yet. Then; still on the ground he just dies mysteriously. Not long after another white arrives, but I'm pretty sure the host hadn't tried to summon anyone. I say screw it, and go for the mobs since I can barely do damage to one of 'em, anyway. He summons another phantom and when they get to the great hall one white comes down ahead. He just rolls around basically just occupying me and one of the giants. The other white dies and I go to find the host. But, the remaining white makes a break for it and heads toward the fog. I chase him down, even though it seems the host should be back on the stairs where the other giant was, I don't want to take a chance. I still can't see the host, but the white goes through through the fog. I guess that's not too weird since as far the games concerned the host is half through the boss fight. I turn and the host is making a break for it now (albeit towards me) too, but gets clobbered by a giant halberd! After he gets up he's clearly just trying to get to the fog, so I poke with my rapier, he turns for the door... and again weird: it seems like like I should have BSed him, but I heard the fog sound effect... then after that I get a fatal BS on the host.
BTW: How the hell did he get to that bonfire without going through the fog or killing O&S, even with MM?
While I do use the mule, I don't host anywhere that's going to have fog where it shouldn't be or stairs inactive that should be. It honestly never occurred to me or anyone else I've come across until the past couple of days. I got ganked the other day by a guy in full giants with zwei and a white with CMW on an Obsidian GS by the switch for the moving staircase in AL, but the switch was inactive -- So the stairs are stuck down. And they wouldn't even fight me straight up 2v1, having me illegitimately cornered after I used DMB! I managed to back the white off and buy some time with the host. I was one hit away from killing the host after I stun-locked him (I have poise too!) when the phantom BSed me. I really could have used the strairs there and there was plenty of time to bring them up. So I found it very gratifying to stick it to this guy. I also found his "play-style" offensive; fastest possible roll, I-frame & BS-fish -- not much else (other than summon)... but, I digress...
Arguably; the most bizarre part of this whole affair was the mail I received afterwards. "Reported" -- he thought I was hacking!! I don't know what the hell he was seeing on his end, I tried to ask, but he just spewed outrage over my "hacking" and then blocked me. Did he think I nuked his phantom with some super hack, but had trouble landing an R1 on him?
