Just wondering if you have to meet him after the Centipede Demon in order to have his sign appear later. I'd like to use the shortcut to skip these two, but also wanted Solaire to appear for Gwyn. Can I do both?

Does Solaire sign appear for Gwyn fight even if you skip Centipede Demon?

No. You only need to save him from Lost Izalith using the Chaos Covenant shortcut.

Awesome...I'm trying to burn through on a level 1 run, and was hoping I could skip those areas, but still summon him for Gwyn.

I don't remember if the other summons were prerequisite, but I believe it was needed that you talk to him in Sunlight Shrine, that's what triggers his sign before Centipede. Just to make sure he appears, make his sign before Centipede appear, summon him if you wish, but after you beat Centipede talk to him next to the bonfire. Then take the shortcut. That way you make sure he already started his journey through Lost Izalith.

I think I blew this. I didn't talk to him in the Sunlight Shrine, and opened the shortcut. You were right...he wasn't there. I assume that's it for him, then...no way to backtrack to the shrine, then come find him in the shortcut?

I think you need to go back to the beginning and talk to him; you'll have to talk to him at various places in the game to advance him: Anor Londo, Sunlight Altar, Shortcut to Izalith.
I just picked up a new computer; my docs on this are not available, but I've posted it before.

Thanks again, Green...I did what you suggested, and this seemed to put the train back on track. I still didn't see him in the shortcut, because I had skipped the Firesage Demon and the Centipede. I decided to just do them anyway (first try on both!), and THEN he appeared in the shortcut. Not sure if that clarifies anything about the process, but he definitely was NOT there until I met him after the Centipede.Green__Eagle wrote:I think you need to go back to the beginning and talk to him; you'll have to talk to him at various places in the game to advance him: Anor Londo, Sunlight Altar, Shortcut to Izalith.

Yeah, I believe that if you stop talking to him to advance his story (I don't remember where the point of no return is - to be safe, just leave him in the burg) , you can actually just clear Lost Izalith in the normal anterograde fashion, get the sunlight maggot, open the shortcut, and then go back through and talk to him at each point, no chaos covenant, retrograde entry required.
Also, his appearance in the shortcut is a bit screwy - the first time I had followed the steps and expected him to be there, he wasn't. I continued into Lost Izalith to kill the titanite demon since I'd already marched all the way down there, but when I turned around and started heading back, he was suddenly there, sitting on the ground.

How can you skip centipede? Don't you need to get by him to advance?

Not if you have the shortcut open. It takes you straight to the BoC, without going through the Firesage Demon and the Centipede.twigsterxd wrote:How can you skip centipede? Don't you need to get by him to advance?
That must have been what I did, because I had already killed the sunlight maggot bug, and after talking to Solaire in the right places, he appeared there once. I still haven't opened the Kiln to confirm his sign, but I will shortly.

I must be doing something wrong then. I've never been able to skip him.Back Lot Basher wrote:Not if you have the shortcut open. Twig, basically, once you get the shortcut, you proceed through the demon ruins, past the first capra. Follow the path as it hooks left, then jump down to the first bonfire. You can go up to the fog door for the Firesage Demon, but go to the right, down the long passageway. That's where the shortcut unlocks. Proceed forward and you'll come to the titanite Demon that respawns. Once you pass him, you're in the section of Lost Izalith where you can fight BoC.twigsterxd wrote:I must be doing something wrong then. I've never been able to skip him.
There's actually an access point to go back out into the lava with the torsos, but proceeding wouldn't work due to the fact that you don't have the lava ring.

Here, guys, is a sure-fire way to get help from Solaire for the O&S fight and the Gwyn fight. You lose him for the Centipede Demon fight, but most of the time he is worthless for it anyway.
DO NOT TALK TO SOLAIRE IN ANOR LONDO until you perform the next step.
After you get the Sunlight Maggot and open the Izalith Shortcut (from the Izalith side), talk to Solaire at the interior bonfire in Anor Londo
Warp to Sunlight Altar and talk to Solaire there.
Warp to Daughter of Chaos and backtrack to the beginning of the Firesage Demon boss gate. Go down and kill all the Maggots and when you reach the top of the stairs, turn around. You should see Solaire sitting on the ground. Talk to him.
Solaire will be available for the Gwyn fight (if you’re in human form, of course) AND if your soul sign is not down to help others!
